Grattan Thanks!

Thanks to Steve from G2G Racing who introduced himself to me and showed me that smokiní KTM 450. I was expecting to see more of you there but, as is typically the case with me, I was spinning mentally and trying to keep up with all the things happening at the moment.

Thanks to Chris (K3), Ike, Ikeís girl (? Iím sorry for not remembering youíre name, if I even knew it), and the third Chitown Hustler (? Sorry, once again a name Iíve forgotten). It was great to meet you all and chit wit chaí. Get the knee better, Ike.

Thanks also to Eddie, rider in Godís Grace, hope to catch you again, soon. You Ron, your buddy, and I will have to hook up.

Thanks all!

So how was the weather yesterday? I'm going to hear it from K3 because I stayed out too late Saturday night.

It was colder than expected. The high was to be around 58 but I don't think it made 48 degrees. Cold but, there was still tire abuse taking place.

48 Degrees eh?

Was it sunny?

Did you get air over the hill before turn 5?

Ah, yes. Turn 5. I try it both ways everytime I'm at that track. That's probably one more reason that I'm never consistent enough when I'm there. I'll get heavy wobble one lap because I'm breaking after the hill so, the next lap I'll start trailing before the hill. I don't know if I'll ever have that one licked. I will say that everytime I set up a pass I break after the hill. It's just easier that way, but less controlled than I'd like.

Best way over that section of the track is to take the hill to the far left, don't down shift after the hill. That turn is a lot faster than you think it is, take care of your down shift after turn 5 before 6.

I have crashed there and gone off the track a few times figuring it out.

For some reason, virtually everytime I was there, I was passing someone and had to take the center line. A few times I was there alone and on the right side of the track. I'll be keeping that line in mind.

Well I did get air over the hump. I figured out that a can use 1 finger on the front brakes and that the brakes on this bike are overkill to say the least I wasn't pushing it to hard thats all i need was to crash the brand new bike. I am glad I went I figured a couple of things out and the first one is i need a damper on the bike asap!

Also I realised that you cannot expect a bike to run when there is no gas in it I ran out at the hairpin. I an used to have a big sv gas tank and forgot to fill it up Man am I out of shape.

ouch, I'll bet that hill is brutal to push a bike up.

That track is awesome, how's the surface these days?

Surface is bumpy, as usual.

I'm feeling for you G2G, but I ran out too. I had so little fuel in the tank the carbs ran dry running through turn one. I had to pull over because the bike died out. Then I had to push it across the track back to the downhill at turn three to coast into the pits. At least mine was a downhill push after all the bogged down grass.

That's a black '05 R6 with a devil high mount. His name's Ryan and he's from the Detroit area. Very nice group of guys and gal to hang out and chat with both days. Sorry, I missed you Bill and Eddie; I hope to run into more members here at the track through out the season.

That's it! Ryan was with some guys under WOS from Detroit. They were with a guy on our local board who'd nickname is Twisty. Ryan was picking up some speed on Sunday when I was slowing down. I ran into Ryan on almost every lap, or so it seemed.

Thanks, Emoor. Apex2Apex is doing the Monday dates at Grattan that were on the flyer. I'll be there June 19, if you make it. If not I'll plan to try to catch you guys later in the summer.

Bill, you were out there with our group Sunday? Which bike were you? Yeah, I think Ryan definitely improved in confidence from Sat to Sunday. It's too bad the pretty yellow R6 didn't make it through Sunday unscathed.

Well, do you remember that ratted out Kan of Tuna? Yep, that was me.

Saturday I kept running into the back of Ryan after he would pass me under acceleration. Sunday it was a little less so, until finally he was able to stay ahead of me in the turns. I was so beat by the end of Sunday I missed the last session. What really killed me is I'd run the float bowls dry because of low fuel in the tank in turn one and had to push the bike through the grass to the downhill section of turn three to get off the track after the session.

The black one? Cool, I'll look for you at the track this year. Yeah, I was beat by the end of Sunday. We were able to get in on sessions 1&2 back to back a couple of times. The whole day was a blast and the instructors were very helpful.

The black Kat was my buddy Kev's bike. I have a red one with 105 in the front number plate. I had to take the numbers off the white tail cover because I had to repair the fiberglass.
