MotoGP France (SPOILER!!!)

Another interesting race that fit right into the theme for 2006.

Hayden was nursing a fever and slipped off the podium for the first time in 8 races. Edwards fought back to 6th after getting stuck behind a first-corner crash on the opening lap. I didn't see the replay enough times to discern who was at fault, but something/one made Rossi go wide, forcing de Punet, Sete, and Edwards off-track.

More bad luck for Yamaha and Kawasaki, as Edwards was pushed to last place by that accident and de Punet retired, but Hopkins was flying out front on his Rizla Suzuki...until he tucked the front wheel later on while holding onto 3rd position.

No one could touch Rossi, as had stormed to the front, but for a few laps the stage was set for a Rossi/Pedrosa battle. It appears that Rossi's chatter problems are gone with the brand new M1 chassis he debuted in France, as he was putting full seconds on Pedrosa in 2nd with every lap while running a hard rear compound to the soft rear tire on Pedrosa's Honda.

It appeared that The Doctor was going to run away with the victory as he was 4 seconds ahead of Pedrosa, but all of a sudden his engine failed with about 6 laps left. At that point Pedrosa was given the lead but his soft rear tire was showing signs of wear and he couldn't fend off the renewed charge of Melandri.

Melandri took the win unchallenged and Caprossi slid past the #26 Repsol in the final laps.

Hayden finished 5th, a hair behind Stoner and well ahead of Edwards. The Kentucky Kid still has a 4 point lead in the championship, but Marco and Loris are tied for 2nd, with Pedrosa right behind them. Rossi is siting in 8th position with 2 DNFs for the season.

Someone put the hex on Rossi this year. Interesting race. It almost seemed like Melandri kicked in the after burners after he realized Rossi was out. Damn shame for team green. I was hoping to see Nakano kick some ass but an early start ruined that.

Just watched the race. I think it was bigger deal that Rossi qualified better than how dominant he was in the race until his motor died. He's been the best rider in each race so far but just hasn't had any luck. It looked like the trouble in the first turn was his fault. I couldn't see anything that made him go wide like he did causing the three other riders to go offroading. I didn't know Nicky was sick until the announcer said something about it. I think it'll end up being a battle between Hayden and Rossi at the end. Rossi looks better when riding but Nicky's been so consistant.

When I said something/one made him go wide, that statement includes his own actions....

Randy got the shaft in that accident. Starting 4th in front of his home crowd and he doesn't even make it through the 1st turn.

If nicky can't win a race other than laguna he is not going to be in the lead for long. Pendrosa is lookin good for his rookie year .
