Post AMA at Road America 6/1/ to 6/4 2006

It was a great weekend and the weather was great except for the rain and hail on Friday.... My brother and I suited up and left after work on Thursday. We rode to Appleton, WI (I had a free stay at Hampton Inn and I wanted to go someplace I had never been) and checked in. The ride back and forth to the track was great with some twisties! It took about 45 mins or less to go either way.

The conditions for Sat. and Sun. were about as good as you can get, 70's and sunny. There was some really good racing, but Mladin was on fire! On Saturday I ran into Cerk, Gixx & Grasshopper, they were doing some landscaping in front of their campsite.....

All in all it was a fun relaxing weekend, and a great trip overall. Here are some pictures from the race:

Road America was such a fun time! The weather was awesome, besides Friday night, and afternoon.....About 10 minutes after we got the tent's set up it started raining and hailing. Then Friday night @ the Flat Track races it started raining again, and they didn't even get to finish the races. After waiting about 45 minutes, the rain finally stopped, but we came out to SOAKING wet bikes AND helmets!!!! IT SUCKED! When we came back to camp....the drinking started! We had a guy with us who was doing circle burnouts with his bike laying in the grass, and I think everyone dug some holes from doing burnouts, that's what kinda landscaping we did! We couldn't even ride our bikes up to the campsite, because it was so muddy, we had to push them up. My bike is DIRTY!!!! Then Saturday was the best, awesome races on Saturday! We had a blast riding around the old ass passport that Nick (Grasshopper) had brought, and then the jager and monster came out that night!! Here are some pics

First we had to do some tent re-locating

This year's foray up to Elkhart was definately the most fun I've had since i started heading up there...we set up camp, got hailed on, relocated (see pic above ) and set up for the weekend...took in a lot of racing, a lot of booze and a hell of a good time..............the Breakfast Pizza, as always, was fantastic.

I fear there are more damaging pictures of this on other cameras

You guys, the dog still smells like burnt rubber!

Awesome time as always. 360 days until Elkhart Lake 2007! OH YEA!!!

I have to go to bed. I'm driving back up there for a track day after work tomorrow, just got done unloading, wrenching on the bike for 3 hours and loading back up!

Awesome pictures, great time! I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR!!

What is dirty old drunk Joe doing in that picture? Does he have a sign that says "Show your Tits"?

How did Misha get back home?

Did you guys get caught in bad traffic on your way out?

Tom, get the dick out of your mouth, we can't understand what you're saying.

GIXX!!! SHUT YOUR HOLE!!!

Who is that Superman Guy?

Who had a black fold up chair, it's pretty nice. It's mine now!

Looks like you guys had fun too!

Siebkens is always a good time as well!

You've got to get some better seats!

Here's some pics from hot pit (Yeah, I get lucky with the Pit passes! ). . . The start, Spies, Bostrom and Hayden! Other than that, watching fools stunt 'till 3am in the pits is always great!

-Joe had a newspaper article about Heroin

-Misha followed Jeff home

-we hit about 20 seconds of standstill on the way out and had clear sailing after that...except for the crazy bitch at the gas station that almost rammed into a dude at the pump trying to beat him in there...then bitched at HIM...real smart in a station filled with 20-30 sportbikes

-That particular wiener tasted damn good

-good luck with shutting Gixx up

Short version:

Packed up a big green duffle bag, bungeed it to the back of the TL, and left out on Thursday afternoon. I forget to pack my shoes, and wind up spending the entire weekend in my track A-stars. This is the first mistake that I make.

Arrived about 7:30 on Thursday evening. Unpacked, set up the tent, change into street clothes and set off into town looking for dinner. I know nothing at all about the area, so instead of Siebkens, I wind up at Subway. Upon returning, I eat my sandwich in the dark (no room in the duffle for a lantern, either) and listen to the two rival stunting crews that I'm camped next to start to get warmed up. This warming up eventually leads to a revving war between the camps--at about 4 AM on Saturday, when I'm asleep. This is an annoyance, but also adds to the general atmosphere, so it's not too bad.

On Friday, I set off with the video camera and start taping practices at the different places that I can find. Again, knowing nothing at all about the area, I don't know all the places that I can go to watch, and wind up finding them one at a time. I pick up a program and look through it for any familiar names, other than the big ones; other than Andy Feuersthaler, whom I really don't know at all, nobody's listed.

Friday night, I get back to the tent, and one of my neighbors comes over. His eyeballs are floating in beer, and he asks me how I can fit into my tent. I explain the principle to him, but he doesn't understand, so invites me over to his campsite for a beer. Turns out to be a group of about four people from Joliet who have been coming to the races at RA for about 20 years. They have plenty of beer, and rum-soaked pineapple, and a very nice fire. In the course of hanging around there, my new inebriated friend declares that he will be calling me "Spartacus" from then on. I don't know exactly why.

Meanwhile, things are heating up on the hill. The stunters aren't doing much stunting early in the evening, though some of their fan club are. Several of them jump onto one of the rental golf carts, prompting it to tip up and wheelie. This turns out to be a very popular stunt, and is repeated many times over the next couple of evenings. However, the stunt show is cut short when a severe thunderstorm comes through and drenches the track for about 30 minutes.

Saturday morning, I get up and go out to watch more practice and qualifying. I run out of tape about halfway through the day, and go up about 2 PM to take a nap. At about 2:12, I hear the PA announcing something about the current practice, and through the noise, I hear, "....number 966....Dan Ortega....." This, of course, wakes me up instantly, and I run down to turn 3A. Sure enough, DanO is out there in the Supersport qualifying, and apparently doing pretty well--and of course, at this point, I'm out of tape so can't get much in the way of video. However, I do snap off a couple of shots from there and the entry to the carousel.

Shortly afterward, my phone rings. Ohfugit has arrived, along with Grover. We head down to turn 11 to watch from there: it's a good spot to watch, very close to the track. We watch that for a while, then head up to watch the supermoto races. The last supermoto race of the weekend is particularly close and exciting, and makes for a good close to the day.

I drag everyone up the hill to watch the hijinx up there. My neighbor, still very drunk, arrives, still not believing that I fit in my tent, and still calling me "Spartacus." We leave him behind and head over the hill to watch a bunch of smoky burnouts, his cries of "HEY, SPARTACUS!!!" dying in the sound of burning tires and revving engines. After watching a bit of that, they head off to their beds, and I head back to camp. I join my neighbor for more fire and beer, and slowly drift off to drowsiness. They get hold of another golf cart and attempt to drive it around for a while, mostly without incident. They finally decide to go off "on a mission," and I bid them good night and go to sleep.

Sunday morning, I get up and head to the concession stand for breakfast. While walking down through the paddock, looking around for DanO's pit so I can say hello, I see a big trailer with the NESBA logo on the side. I go to check this after breakfast--priorities, remember--and find Garth's pit instead (along with a couple of others whom, in retrospect, I should have said hello to). I say hello, bother him for a while, and then seeing that he's getting ready for Superstock practice, I wish him good luck and head out to watch.

I won't talk about the race results here, of course, but there was some really good racing going on, especially in the second Superbike race, and well worth going up to watch in person. I finally run into Dan down at turn 5 after the second Superbike race and congratulate him, then head up to camp, pack up, and head for home. Ohfugit and Kevin follow me down toward the city. They complain at the first fuel stop that I'm leading a boring ride, which is true enough.

Some pics to follow, once I sort through them.

Well, I had a blast, met jughead and a few others over at siebkens. Most people were commenting on the 'milfhunter' (Team Hunter AKA 'bikebabes.com' NOT worksafe!) sitting at a table next to ours (of course, they were doing some videotaping and goofing off. I made sure to stay OUT of their shots...) and lots of leghumpers went up to him to say 'hi' and all that. It was pretty funny watching men go crazy while their dates/wives/girlfriends were like 'WHO is he?' and "how do YOU know about all this Porn stuff?"

By the time I got to siebken's I was pretty well sauced. So much so, that a number of photos were taken of people with a note on their forehead. The note read 'El Stupido' and when I find time, I'll upload a few.

GREAT RACING! Sunday's Superbike race was way more exciting than saturday's race (for a while I thought I was seeing double with all the teams running teammate to teammate all the way down the line).

Saw Kevin Schwantz Sunday night at Siebken's and said hello to him.
This time my ladyfriend asked out loud "who's he? Is HE a porn star? with a name like schwantz . . . . " and my buddies starting laughing their asses off.

good times! Now I'm thinking of doing the Mid-Ohio finale....

man what a great weekend,

This year I made it a point to go watch the supermoto races
Man if you guys have been skipping this (like I did before) you are really missing out, talk about tight racing.

Jeff ward was smoking everyone. Doug Henry was close for awhile but had a throttle problem so he ended up towards the back.

was cool seeing everyone.
Rode out with Grover on his newly aquired Warrior and hung out with him Andrew and Jughead for the most part.

on Sunday I saw Zemke pull off an incredible save on turn 5
both ends were sliding and the tires were screaming, he was almost in the grass on the rumble strips before the bike hooked up. I know he had to be puckering.

Miladin did a burnout almost right in front of us

man great racing all the way around.

Lets see
ran into to 4n6 Jim, Garth, Dano a bunch of the mini racers were up there.

Got to shake hands with Aaron Yates and Josh hayes,

man do I have the posters to decorate the garage.

What a blast, I think this was my favorite road america weekend to date.
I thought I had nicks phone number on my phone but found out I didn't when I got there so I never found you guys.
