Getting to Blackhawk from Chicago

Just wondering if anyone is taking alternate routes to Blackhawk (Or as ken calls it, Black Hawks). The construction on 39/90 north of Rockford before the South Beloit Toll is TERRIBLE!!! Last month I got caught in that shit for 2 hours!

Getting through Rockfor is a PITA.

North from Belvidere, then west maybe.

the only thing I can suggest is taking I90 north as far as possible, then head west to Highway 251 (is that it, parallels I90/39), or highway 2. Take that north until Rockton. That is stop and go, but at least it's got 'go'.

Slightly If you are getting on Highway 173 in Richmond, it's a good idea to NOT use 12 during 11am-3pm on weekends. I've seen a 3 or 4 mile backup for that stoplight..take Wilmont road or 83 up to 173 and come in from the other side.

IDOT just opened the new "open-tolling" plazas on I90 at in Marengo and Belvidere, so that should help a little.

For you far north burbs folks, before I moved into the city I'd take 173 to Oakwood Road, to Rt 14, to State Line Road which turns into Prairie Hill and runs you all the way west with only two stop signs before you hit 251.

Now, I take 90 to Rockton Road and go west to 251, then north to Prairie Hill. I go through there around 6:30 am (gets me in the tower by 7:15), so it's never bad.

What frosts my muffins is the traffic on 90 coming home on Sunday evening!

I going to head out from the Far North burbs (after traffic's died down) and just hug the stateline all the way across, as KBOlsen mentioned. Thanx.

Does anyone accidently turn on 251 ever coming home from blackhawk all tired from riding all day. A few times I just saw a highway, didn't read the sign, get on it and I'm like... This Isn't 90!
