Dude just looking at his leathers you know he has to be in some pain. They might have not given him a local for his knee since he would be on the track the next day or possibly the same day. I am sure they would want his head clear and not drugged up.

Nah, I am exaggerating a bit. He tried to run w/o painkillers, but he said he
had too much pain in both legs.

They definately gave him something. Its really hard to find out what those techniques/drugs are if you are not an insider, but I am sure they prefer to use things that do not have bad side effects. They need to be safe.
