OK. . . am I the only one who doesn't get drifting?

Yes. It takes talent and it looks really cool but c'mon, the whole point to any type of racing is to maintain control and NOT smoke your tires. Do it in a drag race and you're done. You lost. I can't imagine trying to do that on a motorcycle in a race.

If you don't crash you've just lost a lot of time. I think it's a cool fad and I love the NOPI girls!

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense. ~ Buddha

That guy hates tires and they hate him right back.

I'd say drifting is more of an art that a race. I dunno though.

It's something diff and it theirs, not any mainstream media based sport

Well I can't say its my sport of choice but to each his own.
It looks a like some car Ice racing I've seen. plus its the general lee for cryin out loud
also to me that looks like the edge of control and can see where it would be fun...

As for nopivision, I ff through the cars and interviews and just watch the bikini contest and what little after dark stuff they show, worth tivoing, but 5 minutes worth of viewing for me tops

I disagree with saying spinning the tires loses you time. Rally racing is all about traction management, they are constantly sliding and spinning up. I think drifting is based on Rally. although drifting is more for show and not for any kind of time based scoring system.

I think drifting will be here for a while, all the 16-20 guys at my work love it and practice in lots whenever they can, even on lunch breaks. It has a huge appeal to the import crowd who actually likes to drive their car, can't say that driving sideways isn't fun.

+1 on the NOPI girls

If you watch the movie just for the racing scenes, it's pretty damn great. If you watch it for a good storyline and want to see a movie that's aesthetically pleasing, this isn't the right movie for you. Oh, and if you like Japanese girls, this is DEFINATELY the right movie for you...

That's not true...go watch any type of midget car racing or racing on dirt and they're all basically drifting. Maintaining control is the main focus of drifting. If you can drift around a corner with the back pushed out and keep going in a PLANNED continous line, that's some damn good control. Anybody can drive with four wheels gripping to the pavement, some better than others, but basically the car is the main factor in drag racing...Yeah, you have to shift too and it takes alot of skill, but think about how much skill you need to have to drift around corners and not spin out of control.
