Best Plane Ride of My Life

Well, here is the story of the best plane ride of my life……

I was at College Station, TX doing some testing for work at Texas A&M’s Cyclotron and I was coming back on Friday. I was originally scheduled on a 10:30am flight from Austin to Dallas but the airline was offering a $300 voucher if you let them bump you to the next flight. Two of my friends and me decided to this, so I ended up on a 12:30 flight to Dallas and a First Class ticket from Dallas to Indianapolis.

I get to Dallas without any problems and board the plan with my first class ticket. I am sitting in 4E (aisle of the 1st class row) and I see this skinny guy that looks somewhat familiar getting on the plane. He goes to the row behind me, takes off his jacket and gives it to the flight attendant, and then comes up to me and asks he can get in the window set. I get up, let him in, and ask him his name.

He says “Kevin”.

I reply with “Schwantz right?”

He goes “Yes”

Yep, that is right…. I set next to Kevin Schwantz on the flight from Dallas to Indianapolis. He was on his way to Indy for the dealer show. We talked about a ton of different things from riding technique, racing, and stories of his past. Needless to say Kevin was down to earth and one hell of a nice guy to put up with my constant chatter and questions. Hell, he even gave me his email address and said if I ever wanted to attend his school or was coming to a Rod Atlanta AMA race to send him an email and would help me out with either a discount or sweet passes. My program manager has the picture of me and him on his camera and when I get it from him I will post them up.

sweet!

Do you think you can get faster just by association?

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

Very cool! I wonder how often he gets recognized. Did you ask him that?

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

It was funny. My boss was in the row behind me and when Kevin went to the bathroom he asked.. "Who the fuck is Kevin Schwantz?" Then when I got of my plane. Some of the other guys i work with were like "Why did you want my camera?" and "Who did you take a picture with?"

I actually did ask him that and said in Austin (where he lives) he almost never gets recognized unless he walks into a bike shop.

I am not sure if they were in that order though......
