Years Riding: a long time!

WELL, i have decided to skip this year on track riding.

i have been a member of nesba since 4/13/02 been hitting it pretty darn hard for the last 4 years and all that time i have had the greatest time of my life doing it along side with friends. thankfully nothing serous has ever happened to me.

i have seen friends get hurt, and i have seen some get killed. any hobby is risky so no sport is pain free or the possibility of death.

this isn't a wuss out thread by me its more of its time for me to try something different. i had set goals when i went to the track and i have gotten everyone of them that i have set for myself. the only goal i didn't set was to start racing due to the fact its not worth the higher risk of being competitive to a point dicing it up with people i do not not simply know for some points or receiving some trophy's within the racing aspect. that was never for me and i didn't want to ever get into it. i simply have to much going on in my life that people need of me to be there on a daily to every other day basis for the business that i own.

me getting into track days was something to enjoy with friends, GET OFF the streets with some of my insane moves i use to do and it has been a GREAT outlet. i endorse anyone to do the same thing when they feel they have went from cruising on the street to hauling ass, and railing corners. what better club to do it then with NESBA, i have learned so MUCH from them that it has made an impact in my life of my riding habits.

i do plan to stop by the local tracks from time to time and see my friends and lend a hand & support them.

this is a personal choice and 1 that is also not that hard to do either, i simply feel there is not much more for me to do but PUSH it harder and get faster, and for what? personal gratification, well there is no need me to push it any harder then i already have for FUN. i feel GREAT i have done what i have done with the bike i had (a 2000 zx9r) and pushed that bike harder then i have ever known someone to do so.

so now its time for me to move on to Dirt Biking and what ever it might lead me too, tons of fun i hope.

i am not hanging up my shoes with track riding, i simply feel i need some time off and then maybe come back to it when i am bored with the dirt biking.

so, this is just me letting you guys knows whats up cause i know a lot of people wondered if i was coming back.

see you guys here and there at some Nesba events.

be safe, ride smart.

Ken, have a great time in the dirt. I think that you might end up finding that the track might seem a little safer... maybe not. Having spent tons of time doing both, they both have their pros and cons related to safety.

HOWEVER, you know that you ALWAYS have a spot in out pit area at any event. Looking forward to seeing you out there for some beers and some pit help. I'd alos love to see you work with some of the folks to teach what you do in your parking lot class.

I wish I had a drit bike, I'd love to get some time on the trails with ya!

Talk about a tough decision. The dirt may not be any easier on your body (busted collarbone, here I come!), but at least it'll be easier on the wallet and be a new riding experience. The wise men say that when you come back from the dirt, you'll have a new perspective on traction/sliding/bike feedback that'll pay great dividends in your track riding. Hopefully, I'll be able to get up there and thrash Buffalo with y'all this season.

HA HA!!!!!! It will lead you to alot of hurt and pain. Dirt Bike riding is awesome because anything goes. You don't have a control rider breathing down your neck saying you can't do this and can't do that. Watch out for fast approaching trees, mud holes, and rocks, they pop up out of nowhere.

I congradulate you decision Ken. Nobody should feel like your leaving track riding. you'r just moving to a different type of track.

I think I am actually gonna give up 2 wheels for a little while and try no wheels in the water.

hey brother, just remember i am NOT ending my track day endeavors, i am just passing on this year. i WILL be out there hanging with you guys from time to time at the local tracks no doubt. also YES i know dirt riding has another whole bag of injury's too. but this is the way i am looking at it, i am semi bored with the track riding, i am easily bored with things. so i want to try dirt, its something i got into as a child and dumped for the street. i feel taking a year off and working in the dirt will make me a better street rider and also on the track. "don't need to go into all the benefits your aware of them also from the crossover/having both skills".

also i have missed A LOT of family functions, the 1st couple of years of 3 nieces and nephews that i want to spend more time with and be a part of the uncle i should be to them, as well as godfather to 2 of them.

trust me i am not done with the track scene, i am just gonna have fun elsewhere that will free up more time for me, make me a better rider all around, and spend more time with family and friends HAVING fun, not them watching me have fun. most of all like you said, i miss teaching new riders things with my free lessons which is another thing i've passed up doing cause of hardly having any time.

so its gonna be a great year for me ahead, and when i come back to the track, ill be a better over all more into it, and a better rider.

However, I'll also add that I came to street/track riding after a bad spill on a motocrosser led to TWO major procedures on my shoulder. There's no free lunch...
