Never did like turn 5, first time I went to RA I almost flew off the track cuz I didn't realize how slow of a corner it is coming off of the super long straight
Yup ...... been there done that.
My first ever time on the track.
CLASS Riding School at Road America on a 1997 GSXR750
Decided that I had gone to the track to go fast .....so I did.
Got the bike up to 150+ down the straight ..... At that time I was
maybe carrying 35-40 MPH at the apex of turn 5 so I needed to lose
well over 100 MPH on the brakes and had no reference points or confidence.
I scared myself so bad on the brakes my right hand shook off the bar
( and therefore the brake )..... I terrified myself.
The only thing
that kept me from crashing was the huge paved runoff at turn 5.
I decided then and there that I wasn't really there to go fast....
I was there to have fun, learn to ride and not hurt myself.
So I did that..... I concentrated on smoothness, learning the track,
learning to ride the bike.....and I still do that to this day after
10 years of avid track riding.
Oh yeah... It's still fun !
