First Track weekend!

So went to Putnam this weekend! Let me tell you, nothing at all what I expected. I've been to almost every track, to help out Biggy and do "pit crew" work, but never been on the track.

Friday: We arrived to hotel around 11:30pm and only got about 2 hours of sleep due to thinking about the track and nerves. So didn't sleep to well that night.

Sat: Woke up and was ready to go, nerves were kicking in a little more now... went to the riders meeting and blah blah blah... to my suprise, Biggy bought me a my second day Sunday!! I wasn't sure about that, wanted to see if I liked it at first. But was sweet of him none the less and awesome! So started in group 5. Figure start slow and move up. It was a good pace at first, but then wanted a little more of a challenge so moved up to group 4 the next session. Took some time to get use to the lines and picking up my reference points, trying to watch the instructor and watching the lines, didn't think that the track would be soooooooo exhausting! So I think it was after lunch I went back out in group 4, which was picking up pace a lot through out the day... was a challenge to me anaywa. Go out, and was trying to practice my throttle blimping and down shiting coming out of the straight. Completly lose my group for I slowed down quite a bit and was out there all by myself... kinda scared at fist, went around a few laps on my own and was holding it down. Then another control rider came out and picked me up and another guy that was behind me I guess which I had no idea! So that control rider took us around the rest of that session and was kick ass... after that time I bumped back down to group 5, group 4 was going just a little too fast for me. Got back out the next session in 5 and was kicking ass! I loved big bear and the whole track!! So smooth and everything. Friday wasn't the best riding day too, was dewy and misting most of the day so on the stright away everytime I had to turn my head to get the rain off... was ok though, overcast and about 75. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do my second track day, for I wasn't sure I could handle it. The track I think it more mental than anything and I was so exhausted by the end of the day both physically and mentally... didn't know if I could handle another day. But Biggy kinda pushed me towards it.

Sunday: Woke up... riders meeting.. blah blah blah, started in group 5. This time instead of like 4-5 people, it was just me and another gril! It was so much better having less people. And the other girl went out like every other session so... was cool as hell riding one on one cause he let me lead a lot more too! So was out all day, sunny and 85 so was hot and sticky out there! This made my mental state a lot better knowing the track was going to grip more and it wasn't wet out So a few sessions I could feel I was going a lot faster, we passed group 4 at a point and was awesome! When we got off that session he said that we passed them and we were flying pretty good! I was so excited to get back out there! After lunch I stated to get really tired and just wanted to sleep! hahaha even though I think I got like 7-8 hours the night before. So I didn't do my last I think 1-2 sessions at the end. On my last session he wanted me to lead the whole time, but I asked himn to do at least the first lap. So when I started to take the lead, I could feel my body working a lot harder and my mind started to slip. Went off the track 2 time and wasn't placing my feet correclty and draggin toe... that was my que that my time was up! He said I did a lot better the second day and I knew I improved a lot! But by the end of that second day, I could fall a sleep standing up! I got so slap happy Biggy was making fun of me at dinner.

By far a one of the best weekends I've had in a while.... totally a great expierence! Learned sooooooooooooooooo much! Def. have to practice on throttle blipming and stuff like that But I think I did pretty well for my first weekend, my main goal was not to crash! Thanks again to Biggy for the second track day, and everyone that came with. Thanks to Ernie for letting me barrow and sweat up his leathers, and to Rdrash for his boots!
I think between the 3 cameras that were there that we all had we got about 2000 pics?? Biggy has them and will be posting them soon I think.... so that was about it. Now have to save for my next track day!

Bikes can be replaced...people can't...ride safe!!

Congrats on your first couple of days! Amazing how much different it is than the street, isn't it? My first day I don't think I could walk the next day, I felt like I'd been 10 rounds in a prize fight the day before.

Anyhow, the mental stress gets lower as you get used to the track, and your body gets used to the new inputs and exercise that it gets from flying around the track. Both things just take time to get comfortable with the new environment. So glad that you had fun, and that you did it safely. SO many riders ride over their heads the first day or so on the track!

Anyhow, hope to see you out there on the track with us at Blackhawk on Sept 1st!

Congrats again!

Hunny- that weekend rocked

Big Props for going for a second day-- you've got good skills and a great attitude.. the rest will start to flow with every new lap. Muscle memory, track memory, and tips from the coaches will free up more brainpower to go faster and feel more confident.

On the other hand, running into the grass can be a lot of fun . Sliding that rear end around makes me miss my dirt bike .

Sweet! Another street rider finds the secret treasure. I can totally relate to your feelings. My first track day was also at Putnam. I can sleep through any noise, any time, any where. I think I woke up 50 times the night before my first track day. I was so nervous, a bit scared, very intimidated and so friggin excited. It was an absolute blast. I went by myself because I didn't know anyone that rode on the track. I called a different friend in between each session to leave them a voice mail with how much fun I was having.

Welcome to the club!
