The Hired Help - My Lil' Buddy

Me and my grandson, Austin, went out to the garage to start prepping the track bike. He's only two years old (December) and he already loves the bike and is pretty good at turning wrenches. It may only be a bodywork mounting bolt, but he's already got the allen wrench figured out. I was repairing some stripped threads and he just grabbed the allen wrench and wanted to do what Papa was doing.

He'll have his own bike as soon as he's big enough.

He's also good for turning the back tire while you're cleaning the chain.

Here's a couple of videos: (yeah, it's a cell phone, so the audio sucks)

Not too bad for 2 years old...

He wants the tire turning...

Oil Changes...Hell yeah, that's an awesome idea.

Hell, that would teach him a lot of different tools. Ratchets, combination wrenches, oil filter wrench, twisting pliers/safety wire, and a funnel. Sounds like a good traing plan for a weekend. Do child labor laws apply when it's your own kid and you're not paying them?

Yep...it IS a double edged sword But it is so cool to watch him do stuff like this and see him learn so quick.

That's awesome. Although when he finds the coolant drain plug it's going to be a mess.

Those are the best times, my son is 9 now and he is always willing to help me out in the garage. Last time he was helping me with cleaning the air filter and oil change. Then he helped me just a week ago swapping tires. Kind of funny when the 9yr old is holding the back the bike so it lifts the front, while I'm mounting the wheel. That's good stuff.

It's not really funny when it happens to you, but I gotta laugh, because I can see that stuff coming down the road. "Where the hell is that bolt? I know it was just here..."
