Moto-ST June 7th Road America

Moto-ST is running in conjunction with the AMA Superbike Double Header weekend this year at Road America. I was invited last Friday to race with Mid Illini Motorsports out Pekin Illinois on their Moto-ST team. The team owner is Dianna Stein, wife of Mitch Stein. Our team consists of Mitch Stein, Alan Federson, Mark and Meghan Stiles (Father/Daughter) and me! I'm so excited about the opportunity to give this series a try. We will have 3 SV650s on the team. This is going to be an awesome learning experience especially because it's a pro weekend.

We practice and qualify Friday and the race is Saturday morning on the 4.5 mile course. Look for me if you come out that weekend. I'm the guy with Grasshopper on the back of his leathers.

I haven't even met Mitch personally yet. I've been on the phone with him about 10 times now. I was referred by K3 to Mitch and I will write an article for trackdaymag.com about the whole experience. This is a total trial for me. If I do well they will invite me back. I'm going down to his house the weekend after next to help set up a machine and get to know everyone.

No kidding. Mitch is like 9ft tall. He's Doc's little brother. You've seen Doc. His daughter used to sing the national anthem at BHF during CCS weekends. He raced a TZ250. You know Mark though right? He's the dude that helped Chris Quillman race.

Yup, I was on the phone with Mark Yesterday. He was out ice racing a couple times over the winter. I saw him at Lake Delevan. That Chris Quilman kid is good rider. Mark said he isn't racing at all this year.

Who's not riding?? Chris?? He probably should take some time off and save his money. The poor kid was going to college and using all his money he earned from working to pay for racing. Lucky for him, he was going to school on a soccer scolarship.Oh and Mark is a good guy but I'm sure you know that already.

We might need one more rider but that's totally up to Mitch. I'm trying to recruit Ed Key now. Let's see if he takes the bait.

I think I saw a guy meeting this description at Putnam. He had the SunTrust Moto ST patch on his leathers. Wish I would have chatted him up a bit more. It is much more fun to follow a series when you have a connection even ever so slight to a team.

Go grasshopper. I'll be cheering ya on.

congrats on the ride! I'm STOKED that they're running this event at the AMA weekend. I'll be sure to stop by and wish you good luck!

That's a long-assed race (500K) and so, this should be much more interesting than the Mat/Ben superbike show!

It's your chance to race Jimmy Filice on something other than a 250.

that is true but the only thing holding me back is the fact that it's a big four stroke twin. Never ridden one on the track in any kind of race pace.

Thats what Mitch was saying. I did some Supermoto Sunday so at least I was in the saddle. I do really need to get somemore serious seat time before the race. I have Autobahn coming up on memorial day weekend plus I'm doing some AMA amatuer flat track on the Friday the 23rd. Then CCS at BHF the next weekend and Moto-ST after that. I figure if I can survive through the short track and TT races on the 23rd at Springfield I'll make it through the entire summer.

More usable power, easier to ride, less margin for error than a 2 stroke. You'll be fine.

So instead of putting the GP Shift reminder stickers on the triple, do you have to put what kind of bike you're riding?!

Awesome man. Good luck with that schedule. If there was a decathlon of hillbilly motorcycle racing disciplines - you'd be my odds on favorite.

Here is a tentative schedule. Pretty vague. No qualifying, riders grid according to points and order of entry.
