autobahn speeds/gear selection

Just curious since I'm running at autobahn tomorrow....Do you ever run on the track in 1st gear? I was under the impression you never really slow down enough to downshift below 2nd gear, and after someone told me a good portion of an autobahn track day would be in 1st gear it came as a surprise. I also was told you shouldn't downshift into 1st gear except at real slow speeds.

Ride your own ride. Gear selection will be obvious

Wat? Maybe they were being snarky about the speed of the Novice group, but plan on spending most of your time in 3rd gear if you're on an SV.

Hmmm... 1st Gear?

When you launch, and when you come back into the hot pit.

Other than that, NO! Use second or higher.

Start off in second..... when you hit the rev limiter on straights , shift.

Focus on smoothness, corner speed and lines.... think less about what
gear you are in ..... save that for fine tuning later.

Bet I could lap Autobahn at 90% pace in Third Gear only...no shifting

Do NOT use first gear.

Yup third gear works fine for that track(north)....In the Novice group one of the drills they make you do is to stay in one gear for the whole session and 3rd worked really good for that.....leaves you with more to focus on other more important stuff like what Tom said.
