He knew, they all do. Cheating has been going on for so long with the factory teams it's just stupid. How do you think yosh has won so many races? It's not even fun to watch superbike anymore.

Funny.. thats why the AMA is finally doing something about it. Question is.. are they too late? And are some of the changes they are making a good one or bad one?

It depends on how you look at it really. If you want the racing to depend more on the rider and not the machine then this is the way to go. Yes I know there are differences between the manufacturers, and no two will be exactly the same. But it will make it alot closer than it is now. Is it a good idea? I think so. Is it too late? No, it should have happeed when AMA was running it. Ultimately in the end it will make people have to work harder to win, and in my eyes that opens up the winners circle to more people, not just the factory teams.

I tend to agree with you. But many others do not.

I am just hoping for the better. I am guilty as most for not watching the races however I am hoping that will change

I'd assume so

How much of a difference can an improved (lighter, better balanced maybe?) crank make??

If it gave you .5, over the course of a 40 lap race, is a 20 sec victory.. which has been the norm

An FYI why Spies' bike was kosher and the other two not...

Houseworth put stock cranks in Spies' engines after the tech inspection debacle at Laguna, "just in case".

Mladin and TLH's crews insist that the cranks used at Laguna are/were legal so continue to use them.

I think they should enforce the rules better. WSB is supposed to be guys battling on close to the same bikes you can buy from the dealer. MotoGP should be the battle ground for best race team engineering IMO.

The part that seems less than fair to me is after Mladin & Hayden got caught with non legal cranks in qualifying, they were simply allowed to re-qualify with the stock parts. WTF!

IMHO, if you get caught cheating the consequences should be much larger. They should have started from the back row at the very least.

Get caught cheating multiple times in a series, your championship points should go bye bye.

By having such weak consequences, the AMA is fostering this behavior.

They didn't have to; by taking off one of the engine covers, they can immediately see if something's weird. Since MM's appeared to be the same as the previously "DQ'ed' crank, they pulled it again.

There are multiple indicators of stock cranks: most important being the bearing codes. You can't buy an OEM crank without matching bearings, and you can't 'guess' which ones are right, either. Apparently, one of yosh's cranks failed to have OEM bearing stampings on it. That's a big no-no.

Either way, its a huge mess for Yosh, the AMA (both old and DMG) and the fans. Now, we don't know who to cheer on....

I'm all for enforcing the rules like this. If they keep the rules tight then a team which might not have that much funding but has a great rider will have a chance.

they took the stator covers off all three bikes after Q on friday, and visibly Mladin and Haydens crankshafts were differernt then Spies, hence why they didnt tear down Spies's engine to the crank

Completely agree with this.....they all might as well cheat in qualifying to get a good grid spot if the worse that's going to happen is they get to try again on their legal bike. Maybe teams will have 3 bikes in the garage, Setup A, Setup B and Setup illegal (with supercharger ).

Their times were disallowed from friday Q, which leads me to believe that there's no point in having Friday Q, since they were all on the front row from satudaY

Lost in all this was the job Spies did this weekend. Amazing the way he was passing guys 2 at a time on braking. And these weren't back of the pack riders he was passing.
Reminded me of Rossi a few years ago, when he ran off the track and then sliced his way back to the front.

I talked to Jim yesterday and told me to check out some pictures on Superbike Planet......

Rashid said that the riot gear was 'impervious to boomerangs.'

Jim told me that although most guys at Yosh/Suzuki laughed, some weren't amused... I personally thought it was histerical!

BTW.....

After the VIR mess, SPIES Crew chief reportedly bought a stock
GSXR1000 and took the crank out of it for ATL just to be double
dog sure it would pass tech.

Mladin's crew chief must be confident that they can talk their way out
of the other crank situation.

My bet is it cost's them BIG.
