When an overtaking move doesn't work

Quote:
This photo is featured in the latest edition of MCNSport magazine here in the UK accompanied by the following words....

When a GP rider realises an overtaking move isn't going to work, he might run onto the kerb. In a road race, sometimes the hedge is the only option. This is David Bell (20) taking his Kawasaki ER-6 gardening whilst trying to pass Dean Harrison (52) at Scarborough's Cock o' the North races.

David recalls: "I made a good start into third and was right behing Dean, braking really late to make ground up. On lap three I got a good run through the Esses, stayed with him up the straight and made a move up the inside on the exit of Memorial. I didn't quite make it and Dean turned in...it was a case of either hit him or put my head into the hedge so I decided on the latter, except it went in a bit further than I was expecting. Luckily there wasn't anything hard in there."

Bell finished fifth.

Wow. I would be waiting at the finish line with my .45 to greet him if that was be getting pushed into the hedge.

Guy in yellow had the line, guy in green made a bad attempt. Good effort though.

Hedgeman made his own bed there, he tried to sneak up the inside where there was not room.

Did you read the article? - He admits to going in hot and doing the right thing, putting himself into the hedges instead of taking the other guy out, who held his line

This is why we need stricter gun laws, so the guy that tries to steal my line and duck up underneath when there isn't room/ time doesn't shoot me with his .45 at the finish line!!

Hard to tell from the photo but it doesn't look like he had to cut it in that hard and eat branches. Looks like he still has a foot or so on the outside before he would have made contact. Of course hard to tell how tight it was just a fraction of a second earlier than the photo.
