Italian Media: Spies-Iannone 'Done Deal' at Ducati

Since i'm lazy I'll just copy and paste this.

Quote:
Italian media reported Wednesday that the signing of American MotoGP standout Ben Spies and Italian Moto2 winner Andrea Iannone as the riders for the new Ducati junior team in 2013 is a "done deal."

Spies hinted to the same Italian media Tuesday that he would have more information to announce about 2013 later this week.

The pairing would pair two of the better nicknames in the MotoGP paddock in the same garage: "Elbowz" Spies and "Crazy Joe" Iannone.

I can only assume this is a stop-gap solution to keep Ben in GP until 2014 when Suzuki returns. He himself has said if he leaves the paddock for even a year it may mean he'd never be back again.

If that's the case, he should have stayed with Yamaha and put another year under his belt with a great machine, this would allow him to better develop the Suzuki. He is going backwards going to Ducati, this makes me believe now more than ever that he was pushed out of Yamaha to make room for Rossi.... If it is true

Smart play for Spies.

Another dismal year @ Yamaha (even if he had the option) would have forced him out of GP altogether. Moving to WSB and doing anything less than winning it all would tarnish his legacy in that series (i.e. Tony Elias returning to Moto2 to run mid-pack or worse).

Bumping down to another satellite team takes some of the pressure off, while making sure that he's still running ahead of the CRT chicanes. Some decent results keep his name on the ballot for a full factory spot down the road.

For those that want him back on a Suzuki - why?? Suzuki deserves to have Hopkins on that ride - so they can finish out another decade of hype-inspired mediocrity. Spies doesn't deserve that fate unless he spends another season on his head after the move.

I would have rather seen him go to WSBK on the Beemer and just DOMINATE

or he could MAN up and take whatever hell Yami is giving him behind the scenes, use that as ammo to perform better and move to whatever team he will go to - a better, mentally stronger person. He will not succeed at Ducati... If this is true that boy is WEAK and DUMB!

Rubbish. Once the bloom came off the rose in the #2 Yamaha Garage they were going to push Spies out if it meant putting an actual hand grenade under the seat and sending him out for qualifying.

A drop back down to T3 would have been ideal - but they aren't looking for established riders post-Colin.

Staying on the MotoGP circuit is key. Avoiding a CRT ride is key. Hanging around on the edge of the spotlight for a year or two is smart.

Eventually someone will retire or crash out and a factory seat might find him once again.

I know all of this because Spies and I are best friends and he relies on me for this kind of career advice. So there!

It kinda depends on where he ends up! Lol

I'm not betting on Ben anymore unless he finds some mojo. The old US Superbike Ben would have still got a podium with a broken swingarm. Lol

Don't know man - Hopper never had the run Spies did - He was good as a kid but was brought STRAIGHT to GP - Ben earned his stripes taking down MM and then surprised us all in WSBK - Hopper never really did much on that level...

DUCATI ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH BEN SPIES AND ANDREA IANNONE FOR 2013 MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Ducati announces that it has signed an agreement with American Ben Spies and Italian Andrea Iannone to compete in the 2013 MotoGP World Championship.
Having already confirmed Nicky Hayden and announced Andrea Dovizioso for the Ducati Team, the Italian manufacturer now reaffirms its confidence in and commitment to the MotoGP World Championship, finalizing its lineup for next season with two riders who are fast and competitive, already protagonists in the MotoGP and Moto2 World Championships.
At the same time, the partnership has been renewed between Ducati and Pramac Racing, which will continue to be entrusted with management of the satellite team. The two riders, who have a direct link with the company, will be supplied with official equipment.

This agreement will enable additional important support in the development of the Desmosedici MotoGP project, offering a further opportunity in the process of improving the performance of the Italian bike.

Two Italians and two Americans on Ducatis. Ducati might suck at GP-level racing but as a marketing tool they are going to continue to drive sales.

I think Mary Spies just wants to stay in Italy so she can shoe shop direct from the designers.

If Spies gets married, forgeddaboutit.. As long as he's single, he'll be competing for podium.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spies and Dovi turn-in better results overall next year than Rossi has. I also wouldn't be surprised if all Ducatis linger just above CRT-land either.

Audi's backing should get updates quicker then Ducati can currently to stay more competitve. 4 riders developing a bike vs. 2 can only help as well.

It has already been said the Junior team (Spies & Iannone) would get Factory bikes. I really think Spies signed a 1 yr with Ducati to join Suzuki in 2014.
