Yea ... and I can't believe I pay an extra $10 to Comcrap just to get the Speed Channel that I want, plus 50 other sports channels I could give less than 2 sh!ts about.

Randal: [to Dante] Would you grow up!
Becky: [to Dante] OK, I'm only telling you this because we're friends, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass-to-mouth.
Randal: [chuckling] Ha! I knew it.

Speedchannel hasn't been around for about 4 years now. That was the glory days when the network was actually run by motorsports experts...when they got squeezed out and programming experts changed it to SPEED who believe everyone who likes motorsport is a redneck or an urban ethnic and only into NASCAR and stupid reality shows like "Wrecked" and "Unique Whips" That's when the downhill spiral started!
This is old news but, the upside is that some of those sports channels you don't give a crap about are going to pick up alot of the motorcycle racing. BEIN Sports, which is usually mostly soccer programming broadcast te World Superbike live from Australia and there is a promise of more. I've been told Velocity will be picking up more MC racing and the NBC Sports network that used to be VS. is going to expand its motorcycle coverage. Now if we can only get them to announce when things like the Springfield mile are going to be broadcast!

"Dirt is for racing on...Asphalt is for getting there" OR "Flat trackers go in deeper and come out harder... OR (With apologies to General MaCarthur) "Old motorcycle racers never die, they just slip off the groove and fade into the dust!

Lets relax on the SPEED bashing. They were the only channel for motorcycle road racing here in the US. They showed WSBK, WSS, 3 classes of GP, and AMA SBK and DSB. And back before the AMA's decline (nothing to do with SPEED, btw) you could get SS, SSTK, FormX, and SBK. Now granted, we don't get as much pre- and post-race coverage; but so what? We have been tainted in the US with hours upon hours upon hours of analysis and droning over stats and supposed insight for racing or any other sport that we think its our right to have that kind of overkill with everything. Unfortunately new channels are not the answer either, sure beIN sports has WSBK, but Comcast doesn't carry it in HD and the only package they have that has it is the absolute top tier which includes all pay channels. Someone on here commented that they pay $10 extra just to have SPEED. My bill would almost double just to have beIN. I did watch the stream of the races (commercial free, which was nice) but I have a 72" HD TV which I'd rather watch races on then a choppy stream, even with the fastest Internet, on a monitor or iPad.
Not to mention that the streams are live only (think Europe and Asia start times) with no archive.
And don't think that this will continue for them if they don't get veiwer numbers. They'll cut back coverage to make way for soccer that's going to compete for some timeslots. And we will be down to an hours worth of coverage per race again.
It sucks, but we road race fans are a very small group and TV is very huge so we are going to lose out. Not SPEED's fault.

Please elaborate further on what you term "the AMA's decline". I'm curious if you are referring to pro racing after DMG (Daytona Motorsports Group doing business as AMA Pro) took over or something/anything more.

Exactly!...That was when the programming was run by motorsports enthusiasts who knew what other motorsport enthusisats were starving for on TV. Then they turned it over to TV experts in an effort to bump the audience numbers up and we got NASCAR coming out of our ears and shows like dumbest stuff on wheels!

EDIT: The biggest problem with motorcycle racing on TV is the audience is small to begin with and then on top of that, it gets scheduled at times that the audience either is sleeping or actually out riding motorcycles!

Yep, Speed used to cater to its intended audience...but like so many other stations...Discovery, History, etc they've fallen prey to the stupidity of reality television. And to be honest, NASCAR as a sport has become little more than reality TV.

You hit it right on the head. The decline was already starting just before DMG's takeover, but it accelerated with their pushing manufacturers out (which now they want them back in????),stupid totalitarian dictatorship, most of which came in the form of a-hole puppets like Al Luddington, and blatant manipulation of rules to create drama and manufacture "racing" ala NASCAR.

Remember when "Speed" was "Speed TV" ?????

They have declined for the past 10 years - I was religious at Players Club to watch all the bike races and F1 when they would show them live at 4am and shit - The good old days

Times change, it sucks but it happens

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW, what a RIDE !!"

Greg White was only a small part of the "Two Wheel Tuesday's" final gasp. He wasn't so bad...at least he knew first hand what it was like to actually race a motorcycle and knows the sport. I've had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions and he's a great guy, loves the sport and knows it much better than Scott Russel or Ralph Sheheen. Plus, on his TWT show he'd have great guests from not only racing but from industry and the AMA in to talk about government issues.
The original Two Wheel Tuesday concept was all day programming dedicated to motorcycling. During the off season it ran about 6o% racing and 40% features on non competitive riding. During the height of the racing season it would be about 75% racing and about 25% other. They reported on everything and had specific shows about off road and on road and adventure riding and covered all types of racing and sanctions including MC Drag racing, AHRMA vintage racing, flat track, ice racing, enduro, off road, MX with features on new bikes, gear, rallies, charity rides...hell..."Speedchannel's" coverage of the motorcycle Daytona speed week took up the whole week BECAUSE it was the biggest motorsports story of that week! They'd show vintage, flat track, enduro, sportsman and the pro races on succeeding nights and the weekend was live!
We're losing alot here and it's NOT because the actual motorsport is not capturing audience...It's because the BS reality faux motorsport crap LOST the audience!

"Dirt is for racing on...Asphalt is for getting there" OR "Flat trackers go in deeper and come out harder... OR (With apologies to General MaCarthur) "Old motorcycle racers never die, they just slip off the groove and fade into the dust!
