Digital cam suggestions

I'm looking for a good point and shoot digi cam. I would like something that is easy to use, and on the smaller size. I have a ton of SD cards, and that's what my TV has inputs for so that's the media I would like to stick too. It's going to be used for family pics, vaca pics, and stuff around the house, nothing super complicated. Any suggestions?

check out the new sony TX7

http://www.photoxels.com/sony-hx5v-t...-technologies/

Its what I got Eva because it does AVCHD video, HDR photos and panoramics.

Granted it uses sony stick but you can just throw the camera on its docking station connected to your PS3 and navigate the photos with your ps3 controller.

I'm a bit fan of Nikon, but the Canon P&S seem to always be a little bit ahead of the Nikons.

I hear Nikon and others are/have caught up, but I've really not been paying attention to P&S technology.

A couple things to keep in mind:

Don't let megapixel numbers steer your selection. They are all more than you need typically, so anything current is going to be good.

Don't let "digital zoom" sway you either. Optical zoom and quality lenses is what's important, not any sort of digital enhancement.

Make sure it has the features you want, beyond that, the rest is bells and whistles that you probably won't use. For example, video features? HD Video? Sound or no sound recording? Onboard photo processing (not really needed IMHO). Take multiple cards? Proprietary battery or standard AA/AAA batteries?

Again, P&S technology is so good the past few years, you'll be happy with the image quality of most anything (Assuming you learn to use it), so find the features that suit YOU.

+1

For DSLR I'd say Nikon and for P&S I'd go with a Canon. That's what I have.

I've had several Canon's over the years and love 'em. In particular, I love how durable they are, as I tend to beat the crap out of 'em physically and they're far from fragile.

They don't last half as long as the Lithium batteries that come standard. It is such a pain in the ass swapping batteries every couple of hours.

I use Canon PowerShot SD780.That is the best one.The Canon PowerShot SD780 IS may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has in its expansive lineup. The compact point and shoot features a 12.1 megapixel resolution, 3x Optical Zoom and Optical Image Stabilization. The large, crisp 2.5-inch LCD screen features a wide viewing angle.

Canon makes the best p&s camera. If you need something small and simple I would recommend any of the powershot SD line.
You can check them out and compare here dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon (the system does't let me post a link )
And don't get carried away by the number of mega pixels. Often more means bad quality. The sensors and the lenses on p&s are small and you don't get enough information. The camera processor makes up for the missing info often shown as digital noise. 10 MP is more then enough for a p&s.

Before i bought my SLR, I used to have a canon s3, and in my opinion is a wonderful P and S camera.
The S5 is a slight upgrade but to me, not worth the price difference. I'd say get the s3 and call it a day.
