Lytro Camera

I'm not in to photography but I thought this was pretty bad ass. Only thing that I thought was a little questionable is that this company is developing their own camera to go up against the likes of Canon and Nikon instead of selling or licensing their technology. They say this will be the next big leap in photography since the digital format.

Click on different areas of the picture to focus on that area of the picture. This can be done AFTER taking a picture so no need to focus on a certain object since you can just manipulate the picture later.

Well, if it does true low light photography better than a top end Nikon, I'd give up my Nikon gear for one. That said, the images don't really blow me away. They don't have the life that Nikon images do, and they don't have that magazine vivid color that Canon images do. And the bokeh kinda sucks...

That's why it's odd that they'd attempt to make their own camera instead of selling the tech to Nikon or Canon. Not having to focus could be a huge advantage. That tech combined with a camera that is already proven would be a killer combo I'd assume.

Looks like they use an iPod nano for the screen, with custom software. For a point and shoot, its really freaking neat. As engadget says at the end, if they build it into a serious high end camera..... game over for competitors.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Review on the Lytro camera.

Looks like they have the same feelings about it as I do.

Neat camera, needs more resolution, and more subject differentiation.

Interesting technology, but I have heard that Nikon, Canon and Sony are working on similar capabilities.

Isn't the case with most technologies, that there are often several competing versions of it under development. And the first to market does not always win nor does the "best" always win.
