Nikon guys I need your help

OK I am looking to upgrade my camera and I have become very confused. I want to really only buy a camera that is going to last me a long time.

Budget is $3000 for body only

Would you buy the D7000, D700, or D300? I have a D5000 right now but I want something that has a motor built in the camera and not have to purchase the lens with the motor.

YES I AM A NOVICE AND DO NOT NEED ANY OF THESE CAMERAS, I know the D5000 will be just fine but its just the way I am.

Is FX worth getting over DX? Can I still use my DX lenses? I have read so much about this that I am confused and figure someone on here can explain it a little better for me to understand or give me an honest opinion on what to purchase.

Since I have that price tag I am leaving Cannon open as an option, I just currently haves lenses and a flash for the nikon already.

I will be shooting just about everything so I will not be concentrating on one area of photography.

Thanks in advance for you help fellas.

RIP ASHWIN 7/23/2009

D800?

D7000 also has the motor built in.

Invest for the Lenses and not the cameras because cameras will come and should go someday.

If you have 3k for a body, what's your budget for lenses?

As mentioned above, put your money towards the lenses. But with 3k, you can get a very nice body.

Yes you can use DX lenses on a FX body. They automatically go into crop mode. (Just cant do that with Canon. Their EF-S lenses (their DX) rear element protude too far into the body and will hit a FF cameras sensor)

As for DX over FX, depends on what you want to shoot. Portraits, landscapes, FX would be better. Birding, sports, aviation then DX (DX has a better "reach").

A D7000 would be a great upgrade. That would leave you with about $2K for better lenses. If you can find a used D300(s) then also look into that. I wouldnt drop $3K on a body unless I was doing it for a living.

Eventually we'll all have to use AF-S with nikon. Built in focus motor probably will be phased out once they get all their lens lineup phaesed into AF-S types.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Step 1.

Buy a ferrari.

Step 2.

Never drive it above 20mph.

No going FX is not worth it unless you are going to dump double that into the lenses, etc. Rock the d300s if you have DX already and pick up additional equipment.
