I was under influence and I don't remember I remember that I was pissed that I didn't take a tripod.

60D, 20sec at f/8, ISO 640 ,full manual settings, no post processing.

Nice night shot and use of what ever to lay the camera on.
Tip I've learned is to use a brighter lens lens (lower apature) and then open it a f18 to get a quick 5sec exposure and almost infinity in DOF.
No star streaking and would show the foggy ness less cloudy.

Do the opposite in lens selection to do what you did in this shot.

None the less cool shot!!

The fog was the reason why I took that shot. And if you open aperture you go down with the f stop. Having it closed to f18 with 5 sec exposure the image would be completely black.

Oh I agree. I am just not explaining this right.

Example. Using a 50mm 1.4 lens equals shorter exposure time and you'll be able to use a higher fstop for greater DOF and the fog would be cleaner/clearer.

Hope that made more sense.

No it does not

Change "higher fstop" to lower fstop and then it would make sens. (exept the dof, because you wrote it correctly )

Actually I had that lens with me. But I was to drunk/exited to think about photography. And the problem with 50mm is that it's a prime. And without a tripod it would be hard to get the right exposition.

Using a 1.4 aperture lens only equals shorter exposure time WHEN YOU HAVE IT AT 1.4 NOT HIGHER.

^ yes i agree but try it and you'll loose a few seconds off your long exspoures times to get the same result.

I got a 18-200 lens and a prime 50 I can pull off the same shot with the 50 with less time exposure and the result is less star streaking.

Just sharing something I have learned the last 7 months doing TONS of night shots.

Why it works not really sure why.
D7000
18-200 DX lens
50 FX/DX lens

like I said not trying to debate the shit out of it. Just sharing what I AM pulling off which I thought shit....anyone can do.
And yes in manual.
