Going to get a new FX nikon body. Just haven't narrowed it down yet.

Done tons of reading and watching reviews.

Keeping my D7000 still.

D600 or D800 or D4

I don't mind dropping the 6k on that D4 but the D800 has the same AF system.
D4 is better dynamic camera though.

D800's MP rate is just unreal. Not suited for fast action at 4FPS but I got the D7000 and since its cropped helps in reaching those action shots with my 70-200 2.8 VR2.

D800 more of a pro body with dedicated buttons versus the D600 combo buttons.

In short I am thinking D800 is the better choice considering I have the D7000 as a back up.

But that D4 has better dynamics and 10fps!!! Buffers like nothing can stop it.

But an extra 3k from the d800 to the d4 for an extra 6fps more, better dynamics, full magnisum body, but also stepping down to a 12MP camera????

While that lower MP yeilds better ISO performance and that D4 is an utter pro raging work horse.

I just don't know.

Ken, step away from the computer and hide the credit cards from yourself. You already have a great camera body. If you have $6k to blow, go stock up on ammo, guns or bikes. Better yet, save it for a rainy day.

Sorry, I've being useless.

Ken, post up a link to your gallery.

Unless you do photography for a living, I don't think the slightly better photos are worth the extra dough you're gonna dish out for the better camera.

There is Always something better you can buy.

I've not been keeping up with the newer bodies, but I know a lot of pros are sticking with the D700. There is something special about how the D700 renders colors, very lifelike and sharp.

See if you maybe you can find some new-old-stock D700 and save yourself some cash?

Or, invest in some nice lenses. Bodies come and go, lenses can go on for decades.

I have the 70-200 2.8 vr2 and the 50 1.4. Got rid of that sigma (hated it)

Picking up the rest of the 2.8 dream team in a month

I have been craigslist busting people up on there used D700 likens bro.
People still asking 1500-1800
On a used 60,000 -120k shutter counts. There insane.
At 2000 the D600 alone is kills the d700.
The D800 is a beast but lacks pro ISO performance and FPS.
the D4 is utter insanely good. But 6k.

I've been trying to score a D700 but people think there shit is gold and want 300-400 just shy of the d600 which makes the D700 a dinosaur.

Just tried to get a craigslist unployeed photog's D4. He won't
Budge from 5500 for his 6 month old (only 656 shutter count). For an extra 500 I would buy new and if ANYTHING IS WRONG I would swap them out.

Lol Fucken people are insane.

I liked my Alpha, till my Ex acquired it...

I really liked the built in anti-shake. It saved a lot on lenses. The colors seemed good too. All it was lacking was talent. Somehow it wasn't included in the box. Go figure...

Nikon 50mm 1.4 (check)
Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 (check)
Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 (check) (current nikon promotion for 200 off) going till march 3rd BTW.

Still tossed up on a FX body... Wish there was a 26MP D4. (would be a total deal closer)!!

D600 is a nice step up from the 7000 but still a reasonable price for an FX. My guess is you probably don't really need much more. Spend the rest on glass.

I guess it's FX format glass?

Not that it fits your bill, but there is a new 7100 coming out that looks pretty cool too, it's a DX.

I'm now intrigued by the D7100. I was thinking about the 600 but all my lenses are DX and I don't really have the cash to start over. It seems aside from the Sensor size the 7100 is equivalent to the 600 in about every way. Looks like a nice upgrade from my D90.

It's been a while but I pulled the trigger yesterday and ordered the d800.

I wanted to wait a while to make sure the new release of the d800 got all the lil glitches worked out. They did so I ordered one.

Keeping the d7000 as a crop sensor for extended reach if needed. Also since my old post I now own the holy trinity set of lenses.
14-24 2.8
24-70 2.8
70-200 2.8 VRII
50mm 1.4

Can't wait to get it next week and start using it.
