How to win a photography contest

I would cut and paste the article, but there are also images that tie in so you're best simply going to the link...

http://www.photocritic.org/2007/how-...raphy-contest/

Seems like pretty solid info to me. Relating to the first point that he discusses, I enter online contests often and notice that a lot of people will not relate to the topic at all that's given. On Fotki.com, I host my photo's and do a lot of their contests. So many people put in a picture of their kid no matter what the topic is that I almost automatically vote down photo's that are simply of their kids. "Hey hon, there's a new photo contest and the topic is "Speed"...hey I have an idea, let's put that cute picture of little jimmy sleeping in there. I know it doesn't relate much but I think people will love how cute it is, and he does fall asleep real fast so there ya go!" I understand that people love their kids and love showing pictures of them and that's what drives it...but voting through 300 photos where almost 100 of them are way off topic sucks.
