Sunset at the North Pole

Copied from another site - Amazing picture if it is what he says it is

"A scene you will probably never get to see, so take a moment and enjoy nature at work at the North Pole. This is the sunset at the North Pole with the moon at its closest point. And, you also see the sun below the moon. An amazing photo and not one easily duplicated. You may want to pass it on to others. "

that`s an awesome pic. makes me a bit chilli though just thinkin` bout how cold it is there. i`ll have to look at it again later this year when the temps are in the 90`s

Operating a motorcycle. So easy, even a caveman can do it. Knowing how to ride? Priceless.

I found out online, it's a digital rendering created by a 22 year old german astrophysics student. It's called "hideaway"

http://www.snopes.com/photos/natural...pole.asp#photo

I guess you will NEVER get to see it.

Good call on the Snopes link.

Although the moon orbit's the Earth along an elliptical path, it is only slightly non-equidistant. The difference in appearance to in the perigee and apogee (the closest and farthest points) can be seen in this image:

The moon would never look as large as it does in that fake photo.

Here are a few pictures I took this past late November not too far from the North Pole. Actually this is about 150 miles north of Fairbanks outside of Fort Greely. The sun only grazes the horizon. It comes up low in the sky and then goes back down shortly after, there was only 4 hours of day light when I was there.
