shots to cool you off

Since its been so hot lately (my car said 97 yesterday) here are a few pictures to remind you of how nice it is when its cool out.

I took these on a hike on top of Sandia Peak (~10,450 ft) just outside of Albuquerque in January. The ambient temperature was 9 degrees and the wind was blowing about 25-35 mph. It was damn cold up there.

Enjoy

I'm going for the mountaineer/cannibal look in that one.

It was so damn cold and the wind was so harsh that any exposed skin started to hurt after a few seconds. You can see little bit of exposed forehead is already windburned.

Awesome shots. My brother lives about 15 minutes from the Sandia mountain. I have been up there twice and spent most of my time at the bar. Too damn cold for me.

Nice pics.

If it's under 60*, I'm miserable though. The hotter the better. For me, snow is only nice to look at for a few minutes, not be in.

Thanks guys. Sometimes I wish I had a nice DSLR, I'd get some really great pictures. But up there in the cold those things are hard to work with. My small cam fits in my chest pocket where my body can keep it warm. I whip it out, shoot, and shove it back in before it freezes up.

+1 I hate this heat. I will take riding in 40 degree weather over 90+ any day, especially since I wear a lot of gear. I even drove the cage today so I could stay cool.

+1,000 I totally agree. You can always bundle up, but when its hot you can only take so much off.

And if you're body is a coal-fired furnace like mine you get hot very easily.

Rio Rancho, NM. His house has a nice view of the Sandia mountain. He is also about 1/2 hour away from the Jemez mountains. I use to drive up to the Jemez in the winter and search for the natural hot springs. That is until I ran into a bunch of fat naked women.

Rio Rancho is a bit more than 15 minutes from the Peak, but it does have a nice view.

I see you found the elusive New Mexican Chica Gorda. They populate the hot springs throughout the year.

I don't remember it being that far away. Speed limit being 75MPH and all. But you are probably right, it is probably closer to 1/2 Hour+ now that I think about it. Been a while since I visited.

The Jemez was quite traumatic. First I saw a clothing optional sign, then a 300lb fat woman saw me and said "Come on in!" I was like no thanks and ran back down the mountain. LOL! Never went back.

She wanted some Asian delight. You don't see much of that in the Jemez.

You know you can see Rio Rancho in my 4th pic down. It's the dark brown smudge next to the light brown streak.

Rio Rancho is a nice area. My brother's house used to be on a hill all by his lonesome self. Now the area is sprawled with giant brick homes and pebbles for a lawn. My brother has a patch of sod 6'x12' so his daughter can have the privilege of playing on real grass.

I just can't get used to the sand. Even with my windows closed, the sand just gets everywhere.

Yeah, the dust is ever present. And grass is hard to come by. The cities require "desert landscaping" because water isn't abundant. Did you see the muddy strip called the Rio Grande? Not a lot of water there.

I'm going to drive my Boxster out there next month. I'm sure it'll take weeks to get all of the dust out of it when I get back.

The tumble weeds is what sticks to you for years. I had tumble weed parts in my air filter for many years. Got caught in a dust storm one night and it was like a scene from the movie critters. Tumble weeds balled up rolling across the roads.
