My new lens

70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor

I don't think that with my 18-70 that VR / IS is very important, but I think it will definitely be more of a factor if ever shooting at 300mm.

Yes the VR makes a HUGE difference with big lenses. I returned my 70-300 that didnt have it, and got the vr version

Waking up an old thread.

I bought this lens for Peanut to use on my old D70s. We are taking it to the zoo soon to see what 300mm and VR looks like in her steady hands.

I also have a 1.4X teleconverter, which actually works fine in bright sunlight, even though Nikon says it's not supported. That should give me ~ 100-420mm which I'm sure she'll appreciate.

yea it's a nice lens...this shot is not cropped or anything like it should be and was taken at about 200mm...
