Definitely tripod or VR/IS or a makeshift tripod.

I took this one by setting the camera on a fence post; 1 sec exposure with Nikon D40.

And here's a older pic from a Canon Elph handheld; 1.6sec exposure, see my hand shaking?

I used to set my P&S camera down on anything relatively flat and solid all the time. Be very smooth with the shutter button and you can get some nice shots with longer exposures.

Couple of my pics from last year. Taken from Windsor Canada looking back at Detroit. I was so glad to be stuck in Detroit working for 2 weeks and being able to catch this show. Just with a regular digital though, no tri pod.

Sorry Ken, I am not a pro with pictures. Did my best just so I could prove I was there and somewhat share with friends. Maybe if I feed you some beers, you can teach one night how to take pictures.

I'll puts the lotion in the basket for you!

Here are some from last night, taken on the big lake-side steps between the Plantarium and the Aquarium.

I didn't bring a tripod, so I tried to utilize VR and high ISO to get hand-held shots with as long a shutter time as possible, they are not quite as sharp as I hoped but still turned out pretty decent.

Here's a couple more from last night, proper tripod and lots of long shutter speeds.

This is one of the perks of a downtown high-rise with a western view:

Better then I can do.

Of course, the 'tards I went with insisted on sitting so close I was laying on my back in the grass shooting upwards and getting hit by unburnt fireworks and stuff....so it wasn't an ideal situation.

Maybe next year I plan a proper shoot. Climb up on a water tower or something with my Tripod and just enjoy the view and lack of stupid-loud-drunk people.
