Opinion - Canon EOS 8MP

It's a kit, that goes for no less than $600, from what I can find, and a co-worker of mine is selling hers that she got as a gift for $350. I have always had a real interest in photography, just never really dove into it, would this be a good camera for the price? I think the lens is 18-35mm? I apologize for my ignorance, but I am an extreme beginner, my camera now is a 2MP FujiFilm that I've had since 2002.

At this price do you think this is a good deal? I know the first choice is usually a Nikon D40 it seems, but I don't want to pass up a good deal.

It is brand new, never used, never opened.

*Edit* Canon EOS Rebel XT, and the kit is 18-55?

Thanks, I am picking it up tonight!

I plan on doing a lot of reading, both from threads in this forum, and a few of the books mentioned in here.

Hopefully I'll be posting some good pictures after I gain some knowledge.

I've only had it long enough to charge the battery, so I haven't read the manual, or anything on it yet really. But here are the first two pictures I took with it.

Thats because all of you have are drunk on the Nikon Kool aid

Nikon definitely has a better marketing machine.

Marketing schmarketing... I was originally going to buy a Canon soley on name, until I used each on in my list and the D40 was my favorite to operate.

It's all about prefernce when using it, I used Mort's at BHF for a while. It just didn't feel right to me.

But Nikon does have better marketing, I almost just on one soley for that reason when I was shopping. They have better websites, better commercials etc.

I still have to get used to it, but so far, I love this camera. Such a huge step up from my 2MP FujiFilm point and shoot.
