weather-proof digi cam

My 4 year old Olympus Stylus 300 recently crapped out on me. The thing I really liked about it was that it was weather-proof. I was going replace it with a new Stylus 780, but it does not have a veiw finder (only a LCD screen). In fact, it looks like Olympus did away with the view finders on all of thier compact and sub-comact digital cameras. Unless the LCDs have improved greatly over the past several years, they are virturally useless outdoors in bright sunlight.

Does anyone besides Olympus make weather-proof cameras? Here's what i'm looking for:
Sub-compact (small enough to fit in a suit pocket)
7 MP or better
5X optical zoom or better
View finder
Under $300

Most of the Canon Elph line is waterproof/resistant but the >5mp optical is going to be a tough hurdle especially in that price range. Just picked up an SD800 (has viewfinder) for ~$210 for the wife from Buydig.

i have one of these
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_se...p?product=1287
the 770SW
it's a tad over 300 retail.. but you should be able to get it for 300+/- 20 bucks...
rated to
33ft depth
5ft shock
220 ft/lbs crush
and -14f temp

i destroyed one on accident scuba diving (i think it went at about 20-25'... but after i saw it go.. i just went down (probably to about 60' or so.. maybe 70') in any case.. they replaced it without question.. and I was honest wth them.. sent them pics it took as it failed and told them after it failed i took it much deeper...

so far.. pretty happy with it.. nice having a cam you dont have to worry about.. if you get it.. grab the silicone skin olympus makes for it (like 15 bucks) ... since you know you are going to be a bit rougher with it, it'll keep it from getting all scratched and dinged up...

image from google images... not an american v.. but looks the same

it's good for getting those wierd angles you cant normally get
like this one

the sealife is nice.. i checked it out at the dive shop.. for scuba.. hands down.. go that route.. for a p/s thats rugged and full featured.. go with the 770...

That's a GREAT photo!

Man I wish I could do underwater stuff with my Nikon. The setup to take it underwater costs as much as the damn camera!

man i know what you mean...
I have found 2 housings for my SLR are 1500 and 3000
basically what i paid for my camera.. and what I would have paid had I bought 2 of my camera

i took that pic giving her a bath the other day... Wife sent me in to give her a bath on my own... She should have known I was just going to go play around.. set the cam on the floor of the tub and pushed the button

i think it kinda came out "epic" looking... I dont know.. Like pillars in the sea?

I am going to Fiji in April....
I would LOVE to be able to take a underwater housing for my 40d for some diving shots.. but .. I am nooot paying that...
COnsidering renting..
or maybe buying and just popping up on ebay when done.. most camera stuff.. especially high end rare stuff goes for pretty close to internet price on ebay...
Anyone on here have a nice (non-leaking) waterproof body for the canon 40d they want to loan me?
