Photo Contest #1

Just a trial run to see how many become interested in doing this. But the idea is to think of nice and simple ideas for competing and post them. Now that we're post bike show and hopefully warm days are not too far off, I feel more motivated to shoot and maybe some others are as well. I took this idea from DPReview since it's done weekly in many of the sub-forums there. So let's see if it flies here with a trial run...maybe do this for a month or two till we're back on the bikes?

R U L E S:
- The host gives you a topic of interest and you get going. You post ONE image (only first image by one person will be judged) that is relevant to the challenger theme. You can change your image as many times as you like before the deadline.
- The host chooses a winner *AND* runner-up after closing. The decision of the judge (the Host!) is final. The judge is *not* eligible. The winner then chooses the next topic, tells everyone when the photo's must be posted by (give some reasonable amount of time like a week), runs the challenge, judges the winner and passes on the baton to that person. Winner/Host, please post a reasonable topic that someone who's not a pro photographer can be a part of. Remember it's not just cool shots, but the story that can be told for some.
- If the winner fails to post a new challenge within 48 hours of being declared the winner then the runner-up should post the new challenge within a further 24 hours.
- Any picture you've taken is eligible regardless of time taken and camera it was taken with. You can do all the post processing you want. However, it is most helpful if you list your camera, lens and exposure info along with your photo.
- All levels welcome. If you don't have the best lens or just a plain old pocket camera but your shot tells a wonderful story then there's no reason you can't win! This is about overall photo's and their story, not just about expensive equipment.
- Feel free to comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you a piece of constructive criticism, ask for it...after all we are here to learn too and practice.
- Provide any additional information concerning your entry you want. Explaining how the shot might relate to the topic could help too.
- Winner/Host, please copy and paste these rules into the topic and thread that you post because some might start doing contests later and miss the first one.

Since I'm posting it, I'll host the first week:

This weeks theme is "Out the Car Window". Being as safe as possible you must take a shot, any shot that moves you while seated in a car and out the window. You can be the driver while stopped somewhere or a passenger to get some motion shots. Figure that with the cold, most would be happier to get a shot like this, so let's see'em! You have through Sunday midnight to get your shots posted.

Sounds like fun, Jack did this last winter and it was a bear getting people to participate. But I'm up for it.

Yea I'm hoping that more simple topics would inspire folks. It's one thing to say "your best shot of this or that" vs something like a one out the car window that anyone can do. I do recall the other one though.

I'm assuming this should also be a current shot, not from last summer right?

This was taken in MI last month. We went camping/skiing and found this great hill on the way there. It was about a 16 degree slope, about 1 mile long and a ton of snow\ice on the road. Until we climbed it we where not sure if it was climbable. The second RV waited at the bottom in case the first rv would not make it up and start sliding down. The picture was taken from the front of the second rv and was taken with a Nikon D50.

You know the Germans, if you donīt join the party they come and get you.

It can be any shot past or present. Present is of course nice but if you can't get out and snap one then past is ok. Rules explain what pics can be used. I haven't altered the rules much from the nikon contest I've been in.

I totally wouldn't expect any of my POS camera phone shots to win anything. The camera in the Sidekick is junk.. Motorola and Ericsson camera phones are 100x better... this thing is sooo slow. and grainy even in bright light.

I rarely (ok never?) drive around with my SLR on me and out of the bag ready to shoot...

Sometimes you do catch cute things driving around the city...

Here's a crappy one taken with my iPhone on a lonely stretch of 2 lane somewhere in southern Barrington. It's one of the roads I frequent when the weather is when I'm riding and I missed it so much I decided go for a spin in my boat for the hell of it.

As far as I know.. No.. It is right next to an abandoned military base... I might have a few pics of that as well...

If it wasn't somewhat motorcycle related I wouldn't have posted it here... That's the clue

That means chemical area tho it appears is a blasting zone/artiliary zone tho the barb wire indicates and wording on sign indicates its a explosion/impact area for artiliary

Laguna Seca is located right next to an old abandoned military base....All around the track is barbed wire and signs like that.. Imagine there is some or at least the chance of some unexploded ordinance laying around... That was the old testing/firing/blasting/whatever range.. In 2005 when we went to the GP they screwed up traffic so bad.. sometimes you wouldn't move more than 6" in an hour or two.. something like over 100k cars (125-150k people) and they closed all roads but 1 to get out.. so.. they made pretty much the worlds longest skinniest parking lot..

In any case.. I shot that out of the window of the car as I sat next to that sign for a good couple hours

You were the only one who tried

OK.. rep given.. You were right on what it was.. figuring out where it was unless you recognized it would be almost impossible.

It's either "Bullshit"

Taken with the D50 @ f/11; 24mm; 1/50s; on the Nikkor 12-24 lens.

I'm going with "Bullshit"

Taken in the Northern part of Spain. Ex's family is from there and her sister was getting married at the time. We spent two weeks there, this was the day after the wedding, on our way back from the town it was held in. I needed to concentrate on something other than the twistie mountain roads, and crazy Eurpoean drivers. This picture is how I felt at the time, everything was a blur, very little was in focus, and I felt like Bullshit. That is a caution sign for the nearby farmer's bulls.
