Anyone have any experience with borrowlenses.com ?

Their pricing seems pretty decent....

Kind of a high dollar item if anything goes wrong... Possible hidden costs... Shipping?

Has anyone used them? What was your experience?

They don't just carry lenses.. They have bodies and everything in between for rent.... Personally wouldn't mind trying out the 1DS Mark III.... Hmmm.. 21.1 megapixel? ... Wow

Greg
note.. they have Canon AND Nikon lenses (and acc)
I mention that as it's obvious CLSB is a Nikon stronghold
(which I imagine will only get stronger with that D300 and D3 out now.. Damn )

There is nothing wrong with Canon. Its just coincidence that there are a lot of Nikon users on CLSB.

As for the above place, I have never used them.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

I've never rented, but looked into it.

Basically they put a hold on your Credit Card for the total cost of the items you are renting, then charge you a per day fee.

So if you are looking at renting the D3 with 500mm VR, then you'd better have about $12k available on your credit card.

There is also a Calumet near Division in Chicago
-- for all you city boys, here's a map

That is where I have previously rented from...
Their pricing is good and I like the weekend policy (rent on friday - return on monday - counts as one day)...

That said.. The pricing on some of the higher end glass from this place is a lot cheaper..

I take that back.. I just went to Calumet and their prices went WAY down from last year... I was paying like 48$ to rent a lens that is now 32$ ...

Well.. It's still an option in case your looking for something that they dont have or is rented out...

for the Suburb kids.. Here is Oak Brook

Not to say they don't do that.. but they didn't do that with me...
I rented a 2kish lens and used my paypal credit card which posts everything online instantly..

If the lens isn't something you are going to use often and is very expensive... Renting is the way to go... (say some $2,000 macro lens you need for one project.. or a $10k 600mm L lens, I can afford $120 to take it to the races... I can't justify springing $10,000 for a lens.. Well... Not easily anyway

I imagine if you are pro it is also easier to expense and or write off..

Here is the pricelist
http://www.calumetphoto.com/rental/digitalcameras

I kind of feel like a moron for letting this cat out of the bag... Now I am going to have to compete with all of you for good lenses for every [email protected]$#@#

At least you're all Nikon Fanboys!

Interesting. I must have been calling the wrong shop then. If I don't have to have 5k open on my credit card, then I might check out a 500mm one of these days. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with my lens lineup.

Oooooooh... 300/2.8 VR for $60/day. Tempting....

But do you go with the 400/2.8 for $20 more??? Just think of the possibilities. Add a 1.7x teleconverter and you are shooting from outside the carousel..... at Road America. Damn, its tempting to try, but I think for now, I should just stick with my 70-200/2.8 VR and maybe add a 1.4x teleconverter to tide me over.
