Official Photo Contest #4

R U L E S:- The host gives you a topic of interest and you get going. You post ONE image (only first image by one person will be judged) that is relevant to the challenger theme. You can change your image as many times as you like before the deadline.
- The host chooses a winner *AND* runner-up after closing. The decision of the judge (the Host!) is final. The judge is *not* eligible. The winner then chooses the next topic, tells everyone when the photo's must be posted by (give some reasonable amount of time like a week), runs the challenge, judges the winner and passes on the baton to that person. Winner/Host, please post a reasonable topic that someone who's not a pro photographer can be a part of. Remember it's not just cool shots, but the story that can be told for some.
- If the winner fails to post a new challenge within 48 hours of being declared the winner then the runner-up should post the new challenge within a further 24 hours.
- Any picture you've taken is eligible regardless of time taken and camera it was taken with. You can do all the post processing you want. However, it is most helpful if you list your camera, lens and exposure info along with your photo.
- All levels welcome. If you don't have the best lens or just a plain old pocket camera but your shot tells a wonderful story then there's no reason you can't win! This is about overall photo's and their story, not just about expensive equipment.
- Feel free to comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you a piece of constructive criticism, ask for it...after all we are here to learn too and practice.
- Provide any additional information concerning your entry you want. Explaining how the shot might relate to the topic could help too.
- Winner/Host, please copy and paste these rules into the topic and thread that you post because some might start doing contests later and miss the first one.

-New Rule, no camera phone pictures. This is an artistic contest and nothing about a camera phone shows good composition or technique.

Official Photo Contest #4 Topic
This week’s topic is “Reflections of Objects”. Instead of taking a picture of an object directly, for this contest you will have to capture the object’s reflection using some sort of reflective surfaces like metal, glass, water, mirror etc. So you will be photographing the reflection not the object itself. Example: A reflection of a loaf of bread on the side of a metal toaster.

I have so many Cloudgate photos that I refrained from posting; I bet you aren't the only one.

I see you took that one back before they sanded and buffed out the welds.

Reflections from the carpet. No it's not photoshopped either. All I did was crop the picture.

I don't get it...how is that possible...on carpet? And it doesn't look like it matches up on the right. That's some crazy ass carpet if it's for real!

I can email you the raw Nikon NEF file if you like. This is how I did it and it was by accident but I liked the results so I played with it.

Rested the camera on a glass table, giving it about one foot of glass in front of the camera. The reflection is from the glass table and not the carpet. That's the illusion. Post up your email address and I will send you the NEF file. Raw and uncut.

OK, I get it now. That's why the reflection doesn't match up on the right. It's cool.

Heading back home from Deals Gap... Can't remember the name of the town (somewhere in NC)....

Stuck behind a big group of Harleys... Got bored and pulled out the camera...
You should be able to make out the line of Harleys in front of me through all the bugs on my screen

Think this is a pretty decent reflection of riding

Photo from my little Elph 230 - back in 2004 - Think I was doing 30mphish when I took it

The taps @ my favorite bar -Trinity Bar- caught in the reflection off the tap housing. Canon XTi w/Canon 50mm fixed opened all the way up to f1.8, ISO 1600 (I think) and a somewhat fast shutter speed (don't really remember)

This shot is literally focusing on the reflection. The people came out a bit better in the reflection so I thought it would be neat to flip it. Botanical garden last summer.

you can kind of make out a bit of reflection of the photographer in the water behind the photographer... have to squint a bit..

I hope posting a professional photographer on location isn't to much for the contest.. Sadly I cant take credit for this admittedly award winning shot.. I just saw it on the web.. and feeling generous.. Thought I'd share...

mod edit: only pictures you've taken and preferably ones that are close to on topic. Trying to keep this forum mostly on target.
