Chicago July 4th photo

I was a bit behind on getting my last bunch of photos online, here's a couple of my favorites from The Taste.

All shots from a tripod with camera in bulb mode and a handy IR remote shutter release.

I purposely put the camera out of focus on this one to try and get thicker lines of color, turned out ok...

Great shots!

I miss the IR remote. I have to go wired, or expensive wireless with the D300.

I'm still baffeld by that oversight on the higher-end cameras. I bought my brother a third-party RF remote kit for his Canon 30D which was nearly $100, yet was only 1/4 of the price of the Canon unit! My Nikon IR remote cost $12

Sorry for the threadjack, but my question does pertain to these kind of photos.

Does anyone know if you can do any of the tricks you mentioned on the point and shoot versions from canon or nikon? I have a 35mm SLR at my parents place and I know I can do some of those tricks on there, but for my digital P&S I have just found flash or no flash as my only options. Any suggestions?

If the P&S camera supports any type of manual mode or Shutter-Priority mode, then you can take time-delay photos like this. You'll just need a real or make-shift tripod, and the abililty to take long exposures. I know my Canon Elph doesn't do that, and I'd guess most P&S cameras don't either, but I have only used a couple.
