Official Photo Contest #20 - Macro ---EDITED

R U L E S:- The host gives you a topic of interest and you get going. You post ONE image (only first image by one person will be judged) that is relevant to the challenger theme. You can change your image as many times as you like before the deadline.

- The host chooses a winner *AND* runner-up after closing. The decision of the judge (the Host!) is final. The judge is *not* eligible. The winner then chooses the next topic, tells everyone when the photo's must be posted by (give some reasonable amount of time like a week), runs the challenge, judges the winner and passes on the baton to that person. Winner/Host, please post a reasonable topic that someone who's not a pro photographer can be a part of. Remember it's not just cool shots, but the story that can be told for some.

- If the winner fails to post a new challenge within 48 hours of being declared the winner then the runner-up should post the new challenge within a further 24 hours.

- Any picture you've taken is eligible regardless of time taken and camera it was taken with. You can do all the post processing you want. However, it is most helpful if you list your camera, lens and exposure info along with your photo.

- All levels welcome. If you don't have the best lens or just a plain old pocket camera but your shot tells a wonderful story then there's no reason you can't win! This is about overall photo's and their story, not just about expensive equipment.

- Feel free to comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you a piece of constructive criticism, ask for it...after all we are here to learn too and practice.

- Provide any additional information concerning your entry you want. Explaining how the shot might relate to the topic could help too.

- Winner/Host, please copy and paste these rules into the topic and thread that you post because some might start doing contests later and miss the first one.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
TOPIC: Macro Shots

I love playing with macro shots, and seeing close up stuff that you'd never get a good look at otherwise. It'd be neat to see what kind of creative close-ups everyone can come up with.

EDITED.....

"Shots that creatively show detail which you would normally not see". Take that and run with it.

If you want to, give a small explanation of what you think makes the picture unique in some way.

My main point in picking a winner will be uniqueness, but also on 'how the picture looks'

End Date: Friday, Sept. 5th

Can ya guess what it is?

pssst..filament

I used to participate in a photo challenge such as this on a photography forum. it was called guess the close up and it was played exactly as this except all the pics were of this specific nature and the winner put up the next pic. fun stuff. I'll have to see what I have or what I can come up with.

I have some cool close ups of stuff, but you can tell what the photo is of. I'll have to give this one some thought

I'm confused by the rules...you state that there are two acceptable forms of entry. One is something that you can almost barely tell what it is and the other is something which carries detail in it not normally seen.
You stated that Streaker's mantis shot is unacceptable but I think a lot of the shots of the insects fall into the second category so could you please clarify on what is and isn't acceptable.

TY for asking this. I was thinking that it was completely the first form of entry you posted and that's it.

I will standby for clarification of rules before submitting.

Ok..i'll try and explain what I was trying to say..

I'm going to take out the part about close-ups that are unrecognizable (although that kind of falls into the 'detail' section) and leave it as "Shots that creatively show detail which you would normally not see". Take that and run with it.

If you want to, give a small explanation of what you think makes the picture unique in some way.

My main point in picking a winner will be uniqueness, but also on 'how the picture looks'

BTW, I like how your shot shows the butterfly..well doing whatever it's doing Mezz, and Streaker's is a good shot, Looks like he got the mantis to pose(adding on to the fact that you don't seem to see those very often), and both perfectly fit in the rules.

- Steve

I just threw a picture in here, I didn't understand the rules either. I am kinda proud of that picture, so I am showing it off. If it fits the topic cool, if not, oh well.

I wouldn't exactly call this a "macro" shot.. but what the hell
Always thought this shot was amusing in any case...

Mental note.. Don't bother hiding behind beer cans in the event of a gun fight (contrary to what you see in the movies) ((car doors dont work well either))

Now .....
This is a "macro" shot... depending on which way you bend your definition.. it's either... "ok.. maybe" or... by definition more of a macro shot than most closeups...

saQ, that's actually an interesting shot. If you don't come up with something better, just leave it.

I have one that I posted in a previous thread, but that was after the photo challenge ended...I may just try to replicate it instead.

Yeah, they are like 5-6" wide and long. I know they are cool, just didn't want to blend in w/the rest of the bug pictures so I chose the hummingbird which a lot of people never see one w/the wings stopped (and zoomed in that close)
