Going to go "Pro" - So which way? Nikon or Canon?

thinking about going pro to make some extra money...
I recently learned on CLSB that a decent camera isn't gonna cut it
If I want to go pro I need a big heavy one with lots of megapixels

so.. Nikon or Canon?

On here (and with the latest SLR's out) I would totally agree...

I went Canon a few years ago when they were the marked leader...

You know why?
Not that you care.. but..

When I went to Indy, or Laguna, or Road America.. or watched football or.. really any sporting event..
I saw 500 big white lenses.. and a few black lenses mixed in...

I figured 95 out of 100 pro's were picking Canon and L glass... for the shooting I was interested.. Why reinvent the wheel.. They know this game better than I do (after reading a few magazines) do as the experts do.

Seems to me Nikon has the best sensor out there now.. Especially when it comes to studio work

I think Canon still has them on the lens front..

Actually, the two brands continually leap frog each other at the top of the line model.

The Nikon 3x will be the next step for example for Nikon.

But if you really wanna go pro, why no get the real stuff?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...al_Camera.html

For most people, if you have friends in the high-end of photography, you will be best served in selecting Nikon, not because it is a better camera, but because you will find a better availability of lenses to beg, borrow, steal or rent from friends and others.

Canon is a great solution, but I meet far more prosumers and better using Nikon. So, based on that, I'd be able borrow lenses for specific applications when necessary.

Agreed on the leapfrogging

My brother in law shoots Nikon and has a # of lenses.. I'm on my own with Canon... Really my lens wishlist is pretty short (but still a bit pricey)

Hasselblad cameras are wonderful things for studios (or .. you know.. the moon).. I really have more fun shooting things that go fast

Don't really need a camera that is like 50mp and only shoots proprietary raw.. Oddly enough my little ones pediatrician has one (his wife is a "pro") I've never shot one, altho my brother in law had one for a weekend rented...

meant to put up the D3X.. That was the closest I could get
The artist "renderings" aren't really it.. and all the rumors claim it is in the same body and looks the same except for the addition of the letter X

Hasselblad has been the shit since forever.. Handmade in Sweden... It was the camera they took to the moon (well.. not *that* model.. but a Hasselblad) as far as I know it is still the official camera of NASA.. I actually saw a film one up on ebay a couple months ago that was a "NASA model" (evidently they have their own specification)

One of the first photo magazines I bought had an advertisement for them.. A picture of a Veyron taken by the H3... I can't explain it.. and I can't find it.. but something about the picture was magical.. I bet I have the magazine somewhere.. but probably packed away.. if I ever find it i'll either scan it or show it to you in person..

Didn't find the pic
Did find this
http://www.germancarblog.com/2008/08...s-bugatti.html

and if you like 4 wheel lust.. appears these are the people who shot it..
I guess if you get a nice enough camera sexy italian ladies flock to you..

Maybe I will save up.. Thanks Wink!

Canon has a wider selection of lenses, don't think that constitutes as better....

Does Nikon even make their own sensors, or does Sony still make them?

Canon has been making digital sensors for a looooong time and do have superior sensors, until Nikon came out with the full size sensor... and Nikon is catching up quick.

I inherited the Nikon system, and they feel better in my hands. I prefer Nikon.

I'm guessing here that the Nikon guys would tell you go Nikon, and Canon guys to go Canon. No idea how true that is. Try both, see which you like better I guess.

I'm a Nikon guy and I'd say go Canon; at least for action photography. Drop the coin on the stupid-expensive L-glass. The Nat Geo guys I met in Alaska last summer were all shooting Nikon; mostly wildlife and landscape. I'm gonna rock my D40 until the shutter falls off it.
