Purchasing Dilemma D90+18-200 or 18-200 & 12-24

Can't decide... both are about the same price. Right now I have the D40x with 18-55 kit lens. I really like the D90 and then I could give the D40 to my girlfriend to use. I also really want the 18-200 lens as a walk-around and the 12-24 for landscape shots for vacation this summer. What would you do and why?

But just the 18-200 and save the rest for tires?

The D90 looks cool but I'd personally keep the D40 and get both lenses. Buy the women a Coolpix or something compact/simple.

Hmmmmmmm after reading kenrockwell.com I think I'm going to buy the D90 and nikkor 18-200, and then the Tokina 11-16 in a couple months. The Tokina doesn't have the autofocus needed to work on the D40, it's $300 less than the 12-24, and according to kenrockwell it's a better lens.

Another big reason I want the D90 is I do a lot of scuba diving and I really want an underwater housing. I don't want to spend $1400 on the housing for the D40 that I feel I'll adventually grow out of. The movie mode would also be really cool for diving.

Ah, given that info then that option sounds like a better fit.

Not sure I'd base a purchase solely on Ken Rockwell. Personally, he has some good points but also a number I disagree with.

Yesh, the info I meant was the underwater case stuff; not specifically what Rockwell says. He certainely knows his stuff but I find some of his writing a bit too black/white and it's pretty opinionated. Would not use that as the main or only source of research on stuff.

Yup, I've spent the last 4 hours online looking at different D90 reviews. I decided I'll pick up the D90 and 18-200mm as a kit from BH, and figure out what ultra-wide I want a little further down the road. With that lens combo I don't think I'll ever have to carry more than two lenses for what I like to shoot.

My D90 kit will be here thursday
