The 'ole man's side is 100% Croatian. We used to have lamb roasts all the time. I would stand in front of that thing for like 8 hours spritzing lemon juice, thinking I was bad

Damn that looks good. Where was my invite lol......
most good small ethnic supermarkets have leg of lamb, full lamb and pigs. Just got to ask, they will have it same day for you or next day. Don't forget the rosemary on the leg of lamb. Shit, i am at the pub hungry as hell for lamb now. lol.

I know. I got a mad craving for a giant hunk of lamb...must find some out here! I know a few good places closer to the city but would like to try and find a regular stop out this way.

on STANIMAL's reccomendation, I got that lamb from Muslim Halal store - they have hands down best quality meat, their dietary restrictions about meat surpass those of Kosher food.

The guy had Palestinian flags on his door of the shop, and he was sure I was a an Al-Queda operative under cover, as I told him I was from middle East but did not disclosed from where exactly and did not speak Arabic (I didn't think Hebrew was appropriate) but called him "brother" in Arabic and thanked him in Arabic
(I did not want to tell him that all of my Arabic vocabulary is limited to "Stop or I'll shoot", "on the ground" and "show me your ID")

Bridgeview is probably the closest place for you Tom. Do a quick search for Halal meat on Google maps in that area.

Call a few stores and ask them when they get fresh stock of whole lambs. Usually its a weekday. Definitely go for a baby lamb. The meat is very tender and sooo good!

I personally prefer baby goat over lamb, but I haven't roasted a whole one like Samal if that's what you're looking to do.

Ask the owners...they are not all terrorists :-)

If anyone lives near Devon ave, check out Farmers Zabeha Halal Meat on 2643 West Devon Avenue.

They get fresh supplies of meats every Wed or Thursday. Top quality lambs and goats. (Insert Vcook's joke here)

My partner had this billy goat up north. He used to chase everyone, including big dogs. Mean little sucker and we had named him "billy goat". One day he decided to go after my buddy as he was entering his house. Jr. says to me "put that sucker down". Ok, so "billy" got a 22 in the temple and about 8 hours later we had some really good dinner. Talk about fresh.
The best lamb chops I ever had sucked donkey balls compared to "billy goat".

Slaughtered my first lamb when I was 14. The old fashioned way by slitting its throat and draining the blood out of its body...not through bullets or the No Country for Old Men method.

The best is spicy lamb stew made with its stomach, intestines, eyes, tongues, kidneys, liver, and lungs.
