How about a CLSB Chili cook off?

I was reading that NESBA was doing a chili cook off...I was thinking since we have a number of folks here that are interested in cooking, how many would be interested in doing a chili cookoff? Maybe a charity event? Donate the proceeds to CAN (Cure Autism Now) or LIFECO (Helps people with Autism live in an intergrated community) or any other worthy cause. We could raise money by, ask for donations to enter your recipe and ask for donations for each sample tested....have little score cards and let the folks judge the chili. I don't know...just putting out a feeler and looking for input. I'm willing to host the event at my place, maybe even do a ride also.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

Depends on how many people would be involved. we need more than a few. How many cooks do we have?

I'm not sure Tony....we would need 6 or more cooks...and since everyone likes to eat, we can as many "judges" as we like....make 6 huge pots of chili...that would feed...maybe 100 I would of course supply the beer

I planned an event like this at work and we set up a $5 fee for the chili and they would be able to sample as many as they liked... Then anyone who didn't wanna make chili could bring noodles, cornbread, cheese, sour cream, brownies, cookies, etc... We also charged for soda pop, water and dessert and donated all the $ to the local food pantry... We didn't charge too much because most of our workers were low-income, so we might wanna charge $10 or so...

I'd be up for cooking some chili for this!!

I think Peanut and I could try and whip up a Chili recipe. We just don't have the industrial sized cookware for such a large project. A location for such a large project might be difficult as well.

Sounds fun as hell though!

Chicago ABATE does a chili cook-off every year - in February, timed to coincide with the Rosemont motorcycle show. Folks bring chili in normal-sized crock pots... there are many contestants... band, raffles - it's a good time.

If we want to do something similar, I suggest we start planning now for an event to take place in December, when the weather is nasty. What about the venue where the NESBA bash is held?

I've always hated that debate. one should not stifle creativity by limiting ingredients. Personally I use beans in mine, but by no means would I tell anyone else what to use.
