Food substitutions..

What can i substitute for rice? I can't seem to stop eating it, and i pretty much eat it with everything. I'm trying to go down a few more lbs and it's tough to do it with rice on the menu. Any suggestions???

If you have a thing for white rice, cut the portions. Wild or brown is better because the carbs are more complex.

Brown rice requires a little longer cooking time, and many Asian food places will look at you like you are speaking Spanish if you ask for it.
I have only tried to ask for it a few times, and every time, they're like "oh, ok Fwied wice?"

Thanks, i'll try out the brown rice and see if that works out. You think it'll be the same if i eat white rice, and sprinkle some soy sauce on top?

As for cooking, i have a rice cooker with many different settings so i'm sure it'll be a cinch. Thanks again!

I'm one of the few Asians that does not like eating rice. True story.

Meh. I likes the rice cause you can drizzle some fatty oils on it from the main dish. Veggies will end up altering the taste = puke.

I succeeded in eating dinner with NO rice since i posted. I actually felt better afterwards, didn't feel so full, was able to eat more protein/meat, and stayed at 150lbs. Although, last night, i had a craving for cookies and indulged in some Chips Ahoy, Extra Chunky, like 8 of them, within a span of 5 minutes. Chit.

There's also brown basmati rice which is very yummy. You can get it at whole foods.

The trick to cooking brown rice in a rice cooker is to fill it with water first based on the amount of rice you want then add the rice. let's say you want to make 4 cups, fill it to the 4 waterline and then add 4 cups of rice to the water. It displaces the water about an entire water line.

With plain 'ol white rice you can add the rice first then the water and it doesn't displace it that much since it's lighter.

Brown rice is actually much more filling, I can eat half less brown rice than white rice and I'm satisfied.

I swear if you cut me, I'd bleed rice, hehehe.

I often cut my pasta with a bunch of white kidney beans (great northern beans) so I'm not eating so much carbs....but it's sort of a wash bc the amino acid profile of those beans isn't all that much better than the pasta anyway. But, all that works well in italian-style cooking....I dont' kno what I'd sub for rice in asian cooking. I LOVE sticky white rice...particularly with a little rice vinegar on it.

Thanks, ladies.

Unfortunately, i've reverted back to my old ways, BUT, i eat less of anything and i don't eat late any longer. Plus, i've become quite the gym rat so i burn off more than i take in.

Barley. I eat it all the time now. High in Fiber (keeps you full), it's a whole grain LOADED with antioxidents. I make it by boiling it in beef broth, adding some browned stew meat and veggies. It's yummy!
