Kick Butt Puerto Rican Restaurant

Just got home from a great Puerto Rican Restaurant in Down Town Dundee.

Puerto Caribe is the name it is about a mile west of 25 on 72. If you want some great traditional PR food don't miss this place.

I don't like pastelles so I didn't check to see if they had them. I can tell you there are plenty of authentic places that don't sell pastelles on the island.

But luckily my wife does and she did notice that they do sell them.

What do you like? There will be pretty much something for anyone. Don't worry you can ask them for a suggestion, the owner is very nice he gave us a tour of the bar section that will be opening in the spring.

Werd. Corner of Colonial and Semoran. It's a little shack and I was told it's not the best around but decent. I only went there because it was on the way of where I was traveling all the time.

OT: I miss Cuban sammiches and a nice strong little cup of cafe con leche for lunch.

Word I got you homie:

Mariano's
Near Armitage and Damon. (if memory serves me right) Will help if you can order in Spanish. The place is a dive and plan on eating at the counter or parking lot. Best Cuban's outside of Florida Gold Coast (Miami and suburbs) and that's including anyhwhere else in Florida. Don't know if they serve coffee.

This should be the place, it used to be in a corner store but the sandwiches got to be bigger business so they opened up a place just for that.

It will be worth it man. Let me know if you plan to head down there, now, 6 months or even 2 years away. Since I have let you know about one of my secret places, you have to bring me an order back out to the burbs.

I liked it when it was Mexican. I haven't hit it in its new format. The dive Mexican place (I forgot the name) just East and on the North side of the street is pretty good too.

That sounds right. I normally hit it for Saturday or Sunday lunch after golf.
