Ice Cream Maker

Ok so the kid wants an Ice Cream Maker for her birthday. I told her I would just get one for the house, since we will all get to enjoy it. I'm looking for something that is reasonable, and easy to use. I saw this and it looked promising: http://www.deni.com/index.cfm?fuseac...&product_id=12 This one looked good as they say you can make slushies, ice cream, and mixed drinks in it.
Anyone have any suggestions? Have one that you love? Hate?

Just tell her you'll buy a 1/2 gallon of Breyers in any flavor she asks for, for a one year period. You'll at least be able to eat what your money gets you then. Home made Ice Cream FTL, nothing but headaches.

I loved homemade ice cream as a kid. It's sad that all the machines on the market seems like crap.

She wanted the little Baskin Robbins one? We wrestled with that for a few years... Made decent tasting stuff. The down side was that it just made enough to make you want to hop in the car and go buy a half-gallon from the grocery store.

Everyone Exaggerates

We're being taken for a ride... agaaaaaaain.....

Is there one that you suggest from that page? There are several different kinds on there. I know WHERE to get them, just not sure which one is good.

My kid said the same thing. I offered to buy her a new bike and we could ride to Cold Stone every weekend and she thought that sounded better. Yesterday we put down a pint of Oreo Overload.

I would just go and play with them. Or check alton brown he always has good ideas on gear.

Also the reasons for sams club is that they have a good return policy so when she is bored with it in 3 weeks. REFUND!

Our daughter still used the cotton candy maker we got her years ago. That is why we are looking for an appliance, not a toy. I like a few that you posted on the Sams club link, and having a good return policy is good if the item we get is crap. Thanks for the link.

She's not one to get bored with stuff. She has a cotton candy maker from 3 years ago and we still use it quite a bit. She isn't one to ask for everything she sees. And she will tell you that some of the stuff in commercials is crap. She's very skeptical of infomercials, and advertising in general.

I didn't think about Alton Brown, that is a good suggestion.

+1!

Get the old one where you have to watch the amount of ice and salt in it. The best part was getting to lick the spinning paddle in the middle of it once it's made! Home made ice cream always comes out so much better than store bought
