    Yes, it's a track thing. New track riders are taught to never touch the rear brake because it could cause BAD things to happen at track speeds. Under heavy braking (say braking into a turn after a long straight) the rear end gets light. If you touch the back brake you can lock up the rear wheel and cause significant problems when it comes down and you attempt to initiate the turn. For street applications it's absolutely correct that to come to a fast and complete stop you use both brakes simultaneously. That assumes you are coming to a complete stop and not attempting to initiate a turn. Hope this makes sensse - I may not be the best at explaining it.

    The real fast guys use the back brake to "back it in" to corners but I don't even attempt as it would end up with me on my head :)
