If you have a question about your Android phone, post it here.

Please include the following information:

1. Which phone you have.
2. Whether you're rooted or not.
3. Whether you're running a custom ROM or not.

I, or someone else, will do our best to answer it for you.

All these rules and crap, no wonder why I HATE my Droid 2. My battery on my iP4 last so much longer and I don't have to do all these steps.

The Android Market has a 15 minute refund window. It used to be 24 hours but Google recently changed this, as developers were getting fucked over with people exploiting the longer window.

So buy the app, try it out and if you don't like it, Uninstall it within 15 minutes for a refund. But if you buy it again later, then that purchase will be non-refundable.

HTC EVO - Rooted with Unrevoked forever
Myn's TwopointTwo rev4. rom
kernel #17

Can I load new SBC Kernel on Myn's TwopointTwo rev4. rom with kernel #17? And what version I should use so many to pick?

Looks like SBC can preserve the battery pretty good.

ps: Every man and every horny women should have this app.
Highly recommended Adult Movies HD_1.2

Yes. Myn himself posted that he just flashed "SBC-net-4.2.2-more-havs.zip" the other day and has been using it since.

Note that each Evo will have a different result with any given Kernel. This is due to subtle hardware differences between different phones. Your only option is to try them out and figure out which ones work best for you.

I've been running Myn's with Netarchy's different kernels, with great success. Ziggy's and KingKlick's kernels have always resulted in random reboots for me, so I've stopped testing those. Your phone's results may differ.

I can't beat level 1-4 of Angry Birds seasonal game, what's the best method used?
Sadly, I even have an answer for this. Go to YouTube and search "Angry Birds Seasons Walkthrough."

when will androids be realistic enough for sexual purposes? you know, sexbot. Doing the dishes and laundry would be also nice. Followed by the extinction of the human race as procreation grinds to a halt.

wait is this thread about phones? wtf?

To be clear, HAVS are not a feature of a ROM, but are a feature of a kernel. This is important, since different kernels can be combined with different ROMs.

HAVS: Hybrid Adaptive Voltage Scaling, basically tries to undervolt as much as possible to conserve power, but adapts to things like cpu load and temperature.

No HAVS: Static voltage scaling, every cpu speed pulls a specific amount of power from the battery, no variation

What's your favorite keyboard and do different keyboards have different autocomplete? The new iPhone autocomplete works way better than my stock Evo. Unrooted. Thanks. Good thread.
I was using Swype Beta for a while, but one of their recent releases pissed me off - it introduced a bug that prioritized names in my contacts over regular words. It's been fixed since. But I switched to SwiftKey and have been using that since. The awesome feature of SwiftKey is that it analyzes your SMS history and uses that to "learn" how you type, to better improve the autocomplete prediction. And that works very well.

I just flashed SBC on EVO, will see if it's better than #17 kernel.
Bek should I flash new radio and WIMax? I know it's been a problem with stock kernel and new radio updates, it wouldn't boot all the way.
I'm currently on Radio 2.15.00.11.19, WiMAX 27167_R01, but am NOT on the latest PRI 1.90. I'm still on 1.77. When I tried out 1.90, I ran into CPU issues, as many others on Myn's have as well. It's been documented elsewhere that you need to run it against a 3.70 based ROM, which Myn's RLS 4 is not. Myn was on vacation for the last 2 weeks, so has not been able to put RLS 5 together just yet.

I want to try VirusREvolution Rom but the setup of my phone is so nice and I wan to keep it that way. :)
I know when you do backup via Ra_Recovery it will preserve you screen layout ect.
Those two are my favorite setups with Vanilla lock screen to get two different wallpapers (one for lockscreen and another one as a background)

Regarding the samsung epic, if anybody needs help rooting it, deleting stock sprint apps, adding custom roms to it let me know. Been doing a lot of reading the past couple days, got my phone rooted, wireless tether installed so I dont have to pay sprint for theres, all the sprint apps removed I dont want. Havent added any roms yet just to see what kind of battery life I can get out of the stock phone. Right now with my extended battery I can get 3 full days. 4g on half my day, pandora streaming for a few hours each day. The normal facebook, email checks every once in a while. Still gonna hold off on 2.2 right now just because theres rumors everywhere about it comming out this month.

Unrooted Galaxy S here, on US Cell.

My questions are n00bish:
1) What are some of the more popular apps?
2) Is there an easy way to get rid of ad content (both on websites & within apps)?
3) Looks like lots of apps are free while similar apps have a small fee. What do you get (if anything) when purchasing the fee based version vs the freebies?

1. I've been meaning to update the earlier FAQ post with some info about this.

Hop over to AppBrain.com. You can browse popular apps at the top. It's an extremely useful website for browsing apps via web browser. If you set up an account like many have, you can queue up apps to install on your phone. You can also share your app lists with others. Here's mine if you want to see what I have:

http://www.appbrain.com/user/Bek/apps-on-the-htc-evo-4g/

2. You need to root, in order to use any of the available ad-removal apps out there.

http://www.appbrain.com/app/adfree-android/com.bigtincan.android.adfree

3. All depends on the app & the choice of the developer. Some apps offer 100% of their features with or without ads. Others withhold features until you buy the app.

Hope this helps to get you started!

1. Depends on what you want to do with your phone. Certainly games like angry bird are really popular right now. Also sports apps that give you live listening and even sometimes footage of the game. Really depends what you are into.

2. There is no way to remove the ads. Most of the payed apps are ad free and thats the incentive they use to get you to pay for it.

3. Payed app could allow you to use 100% of the apps functions while the free one might be limited in what it can do. Also payed apps most of the time dont have ads whichs refers to question 2 as well.

Will my sim card from my android phone (samsung galaxy S tmobile) work on samsung galaxy tab tmobile also. I know the phone feature will not be working, but what about internet?

#30 ·
I believe the answer is yes.

But more interesting, the T-Mobile Tab was hacked a month ago & is capable of making phone calls too.

Thanks Bek!
Got another one: same phone, samsung galaxy S, market stopped downloading any apps - it shows red arrow like it starting to download and then disappears after couple of seconds. Tried rebooting, cleared cache, searched online that uninstalling any market updates might help, went back to old market ver, same thing. Now stuck with old market, can't download apps, don't know how to get new version back. Anything I can try besides factory reset?

#39 ·
I've seen this occur with the previous version of the Market, with some custom ROMs. While I never fully learned why it happened, the workaround I learned was to log into GTalk. Once I signed into GTalk, then any queued Market transfers would kick in, or I could switch back to Market & download apps. For reasons unclear to me, GTalk and the Market are somehow linked. If you are using an automated task killer that is killing GTalk, this might be a cause.

In either case, try this workaround and report back. Flush out the app cache from the Market AND GTalk as well, just in case.

The data reception on my G2 is weak. I did a side by side comparison with another device on T-mobile's network. At this one particular location, G2 gets stuck on Edge while the other person with the HD2 has 3G. Situation remains the same over multiple days. I tried restarting and toggling the wireless settings as well.

Is there a way to upgrade or tweak the radio firmware on android phones?

Thanks in advance.

#38 ·
Yes, Android radio firmware is flashed independently of ROMs and Kernels.

A quick glance on XDA, I see some folks have released leaked radios for the Desire Z which do not seem to be fully compatible with the G2. Otherwise a quick search on XDA hasn't unearthed any RADIO threads from T-Mo. In fact, XDA activity/coverage for this phone is fairly minimal.

Also, are you certain that you are stuck on Edge? I ask, because of this thread which jumped out at me, regarding data throttling:
