my dog was on Royal Canin, but had a bunch of skin problems/bald spots and bad gas, so i switched him to Iams small and toy formula, and now hes cuddly soft and no more bald spots, and a couple of his cysts went down as well.

Had problems with Royal Canin - Switched to Evo also give him sweet potato and he is a perfect little man now.

Blue buffalo is a great choice. I worked at petsmart for my 1st job a couple years ago and I would say it it the best they offered
We have tried a # of things.. Went back and forth with the vet about whether she had grass allergies or food allergies.. and to be honest.. we still aren't sure.

We settled on just feeding her chicken.. she seems much better.. but it's also winter - so other factors are involved..

Used to feed her Bil-Jac.. then she stopped eating it.. In the beginning we could use the bil jac food as training treats she loved it so much

We fed her avoderm for a while.. She seemed to like it.. but she gets excited about a food for a while.. then she bored of it and food strikes (which is bad.. as she vomits bile)

I have heard good things about Innova.. Havent tried that one..

We also contemplated and discussed the all raw diet.. but.. unless there was a clearly defined benefit.. We are on the fence.. It is much more difficult to maintain.. and very hard on them to go on and off of.. at least so I heard from a vet.. the people at the pet food stores disagree... I lean towards believing the person with the word DR before their name over the person who works in a pet store and was at some time a vet tech.. but.. I am not sure.. Vet's don't know it all.. and they can be sometimes wrong or misled as well..

Anyone else doing the raw diet stuff?

I know they have it at Wiggley Field up on Broadway (3400 block or so)

another vote for innova here. I've used it as well. good stuff imo. I think innova makes evo and I switched only because the store stopped carrying the innova for some odd reason.

so are there still two lines of food or did they shorten the name and change the bag.

We're running into the same problem with Diesel.
He was doing just fine on Canidae until a few months ago. Word is they changed the formula, but we're not sure thats what caused his difficulties. Since then, we've tried some ungodly expensive hypoallergenic stuff, Diamond, Natures' Recipe Easy digest, and Iams. He hated the Diamond. wouldn't even eat it.

Vet is clueless. :bangin

I can say that my cats are very happy and look great. Good coats and the food doesn't make them put on weight. And they have an ungodly amount of energy although they are still kinda young at 3 years. They like to chase each other and make laps around the apt. Sometimes I have to get up and separate them because they knock over so much stuff while they practice their urban gymnastics....little bastards.

Bill Jac. Maiko used to be on Royal Canine until I took the Bill-Jac challenge.
Put a bowl of the food they are on now next to a bowl of Bill-jac and see which one they go for. Maiko went for the Bill-jac

keep in mind that dogs also eat yard nuggets too so....:jester
Dogs dont know whats best for them

Is there enough nutritional content and caloric intake in just chicken or beef to keep a dog healthy?
if that was in response to me.. We are feeding her a chicken based food.. it has tons of other vitamins, minerals, brown rice, and veggies added as well..

I have fed her everything from Ostrich to deer to chicken to salmon... to steak, lobster and crab legs.. (Izzy tends to eat a little bit of what we eat.. she loves costco runs)

Royal Canin IMHO is a bit overpriced, I switched to Nutro Natural Choice Large Dog Breed without any problems. Although my dog still sheds like crazy! Human food is not for dogs. I can have a steak dinner at eye level of my mutt and she (female tendancy, most males would just gobble it up) wont touch it! If I give her scraps its dropped into her bowl. Didnt want to associate my hand with food. Honestly she better behaving than half my friends, LOL.

we tend to eat in the living room.. I can leave a plate on the coffee table with filet mignon, crab legs, lobster, or salmon.. all things she LOVES.. get up and walk over to get a glass of water.. without even watching her.. and she will sit nicely and wait..

We generally will mix some of the food into her kibble to entice her to eat.. although wifey (the one who made the rule ..dogs eat dogfood not people food.. tends to hand her a piece here and there.. so much so that she doesn't even usually sit by me when we eat.. she goes over and sits next to her.. She doesn't even beg me at all as she realizes the fat man doesn't share his food often :)

Second the better behaved than half the friends thing :)

If you are referring to the raw diet, the answer is no, there is not enough. You have to supplement. We use to get our food from the Doggie Deli, but I think they closed their location in Downers and I really don't want to drive to the city to buy it. It came all premixed with the necessary supplements. I can't remember what exactly it was, but you just blend it and mix it with the raw beef.

If you switch, warning....it will give your dogs the biggest, most explosive shits ever for a week or so. It's normal, just make sure they stay hydrated. Once their bodies get use to it, it returns to normal. I have to admit, the dogs were looking very good while on the raw diet, but the wife and I just didn't have the time to feed them it everyday. Plus, the inlaws watch the dogs during the day, and they have a dog that wasn't on the raw diet, so our dogs would just eat all his food then wouldn't eat later for us.

I think it's one ... the stuff I buy is Innova EVO (the Innova is in tiny print) :)

Dogs are like kids! Everyone has an opinion but every dog is different and you have to find what works for your dog :)

no, they need nutrition like we do (veggies, vitamins, etc)

keep in mind that dogs also eat yard nuggets too so....:jester

VERY TRUE!!! Including chocolate and raisins and other stuff that is toxic to them!
