Depicting a nuclear explosion

Did you guys watch the depiction that the History Channel did on a nuclear explosion in DC? Wow is that some crazy shit.

I'm wondering how it would effect the rest of the United States far away from the blast and fall out. How it would effect Chicago. They never went in to anything like that.

What would you do? What would happen here in the midwest? Do you think it would be complete chaos here to? It's hard to think about but a very real possiblilty.

I'm actually working with the department of homeland security at Fort Richardson right now. And the History Channel depicted it quite accurately. It more than likely will not be an air missile. It will be in a van or in a building where a terrorist can assemble a uranium enriched bomb. BOOOOOOM! 300,000 dead and injured within a minute. And then the fallout is even harder to imagine.

Well, I'm guessing that one good thing for us here in Chicago with the DC nuke scenario is that a lot of the fall out would naturally get taken to the east and away from us. I didn't see the show however. Did they say what the typical fall out range is for the size of explosive they were discussing?

I agree with Bmoney and Arch. The winds would take most of the fallout to the east. If it happens anywhere around here I would like to get front row seats for the best fireworks display on earth :lmao:. That will blow Wed bike night fireworks out of the water. Seriously, you don't want to be spared only to die a slow painful death of radiation poisoning :(. I would rather be the first person to absolutely disappear like Houdini :laughing.

if it hits east, some fall out will happen here because of the instant weather change i would assume depending on the size of the bomb. otherwise, i would assume, it will all continue to travel east from point of impact/destruction.

just need to stay away from that area, and more then likely we would be fine. most of everything is grown here in the midwest, so we would be fine on that also. now say if it blew more west of us say in kansas or colorado, the potential for mass radiation popinsioning would be super high, plus all the crops would be a complete waste for years to come.

i hate to say it, but in my eyes, the way they shown how fall out worked in the show jerico, would be pretty damn close to reality. everything would be FAWKED!!!!!!!

HUH???

There would be no instant weather change from 1 nuclear blast over DC. There's nothing magical about a nuke, it is just a really big explosion; yeah there's fallout and an EMP, but a blast in DC would likely have no immediate impact on Chicago. We are too far away.

And then being killed by a tornado right?

On the flipside, I always kind of felt like it might be the smallest thing that does us in as a nation/race.

We also could kill all of the honey bees (since it's already happening at an alarming rate right now) thus disrupting the entire food chain and plummeting us all into starvation and a slow painful death and then beg for a nuke to finish us off.
