EBAY - Seems like a joke !?

I haven't used ebay much, but I have been checking it out lately. Maybe I just don't get it - but seems like a lot of this is a joke.

When I check on a sellers feedback - most of the feedback is for buying/selling some odd-ball trinket that cost more to ship than to buy. I'm thinking who would go to the trouble of buying/selling $2 trinkets on ebay - then I also noticed there was often ONLY ONE BID on the item. I figure either only one person was interested - or more likely this is a bogus transaction to 'create' positive feedback for an ebay account !! I don't know ??

I also watched some bikes sell - these people where bidding 4,000 - 5,000 on salvage title bikes with an undisclosed amount of damage !!! Maybe they had more info than me, but seemed like high prices - one of them had lots of cosmetic damage, air intake and fairing stay destroyed, tank dented, not sure if frame is straight, stator cover busted and leaking oil, .... yet the bidding war goes over $4,000.

Really makes me wonder how much of it is legit & how much is not so legit ?? I'm alittle bummed, because seems like ebay can be a GREAT place to do business (if it doesn't turn into scam central).

But why are these guys selling a key chain for $1.50 and a hot wheels car for $2.75 ?

Is it because these are collectors items or something ??? I certainly don't mean to knock anyone - it just seems odd ?

You do need to be careful of the people with lots of feedback only due to selling cheap items and then they're suddenly selling a bike for an unreasonably low price. I like to review what they've sold if I'm making a larger $$ purchase on ebay. I lost around $75 about 4 years ago off an auction that went bad, but haven't had a problem since. I've sold 2 bikes, 1 car, random parts, and have bought more odds and ends that I can remember.

I fortunately never had a problem with eBay. I've found it's a great resource for parts and accessories for my cycle and my car.

I think some people are under the impression that just because it's on eBay, you're getting a good deal.

A lot of people scam you though. I was looking for car speakers and they were about $30 cheaper than everywhere else. Then I saw the seller wanted $19.95 for shipping!! WTF? These were only 6x9 speakers too! If you purchased two pairs they wouldn't even combine the shipping costs!

If you buy from people that have decent feedback, you'll probably make out ok.

BTW - I wasn't looking for this, a website called alldumb.com lists stupid links including items from eBay.

I just got my 1st item from ebay. It was cool, but you do have to be careful. I'm not going to tell anyone what I got :flip You all will laught ur asses off :twofinger

I use E-bay on a regular, but selective basis. No problems yet.

To me its hard to trust ebay sellers. Seen too many scams on it and Ebay really doesnt try to stop it. Still browse for odd stuff for teh bikes, but havent bought anything.

Yea - I'm sure there is a lot of potential for good buys/sells. I read a lot about the scams too though - so I guess that has made me a little skeptical.

Hope I didn't offend anyone with my comments.

Just be careful, lots of these bike sales are complete scams, it's apparent when you know what to look for. If you're not sure, call and email and talk it out with the seller, don't send any money until you actually see the bike, regardless of what the seller demands.

I buy and sell a ton of shit that i do not want anymore and i figure either i sell it for a couple bucks or throw it away.

I have been plenty surprised on prices that i got and i never had a problem. Other than getting the item and it broke in transit but did not matter just got the insurance and all was good.

I love ebay. I just picked up a beer kegerator tapper handle thats a big old irish clover with bud light on it less than 5 minutes ago. Where else would i have found that?:laughing

I think its a great avenue but RESEARCH PRICES before you end up paying 30 bucks on something that only costs 10 bucks. Do not get caught up in the bidding wars cause you will probably lose! (value of item that is;) )

I have used Ebay for a few years now. Not really hardcore, but here and there for buying and selling. I've had good luck with buying and only one bad experience with selling, but that was more Pay Pal related.

ebay is the one place where you can find just about anything, and especially things that you cannot run to the corner store to find. That may be why you will see some items selling for more than what you think they should. Not that they are a collectors item persay, but perhaps scarce in a particular geographic area or discontinued items which cannot be bought at any store. I have sold 1:18 scale bikes to people in Canada, Belgium,Italy, Australia, France and I even sent one to Iraq. I have also found myself running from store to store, within the same chain, looking for an item, spending hours at times. It would have been easier, and probably cheaper to buy it on ebay.

As far as inflated shipping prices go, most "new" current items you will find people selling for about the same as what you would find in a store. Ebay charges fees according to how much an item sells for. A seller may use the strategy of limiting his or her exposure to such fees by selling the item cheap, but make up any shortfall in the shipping cost. I have bought a few things for $1.00, but paid $20.00 for shipping.

Selling: I have sold 100% of what I have listed.

Buying:If you find it on ebay, check around to see if you can get it elsewhere cheaper/easier, if not... bid on!

I have had a snag here or there, but overall a great experience.

With regard to eBay:

"An educated consumer is the best customer". It's a wonderful tool if used properly. Know what you're looking for, know what you want to pay, ask questions, bid last.

We've bought 3 bikes, wheels, parts and a whole mess of other stuff that way.... no complaints or disappointments.
