*Update* So I have done some analysis, and I will probably have some 3D models available to view and a complete design by 4/18/2010. A discount will be given to the first individual that purchases at least the Kit form, provided they will allow a full photoshoot of the unit. This price will be about $150 + the price of the harbor freight trailer.

I will also have solid pricing on options ranging from a KIT form which requires drilling and full assembly as well as you providing the trailer, to a fully built unit.

Initial calculations will put the kit at around $300~$350 and the fully built unit from $550-$650.

Please feel free to PM me with any questions. I hope this sparks some serious interests with you folks!!!!!

If I was able to design a single bike motorcycle trailer with the following features...

1. Under 175lbs without a motorcycle.
2. Can be disassembled in about 5 minutes so that it can easily be stored vertically in a garage and occupy no more space than a roll around tool box.
3. Can be towed with a compact car due to a very light tongue weight with no impact on driveability.
4. Is no longer than the motorcycle itself.
5. Can be wheeled around by hand WITH a motorcycle fully loaded onto the bed.

...and sell for a price of between $450~$500 in kit form shippable to any of the continental US, do you think I would have a market for that?

If not, please feel free to throw out your ideas.

Sure , at that price point , its less than half of the trailer in a bag. I would buy one. I wouldnt mind if it weighed a little more , but could haul two bikes.

I would buy one as well.

I have roughed out the design for the trailer your thinking of. To get the weight down, you need to use aluminum. Steel will put you over your target. You'll have 75lbs in just springs, axles, and tires, which really doesn't leave much for the trailer frame and tongue.

The short list is about $250 in materials bought wholesale. I figured 8 hours fabrication, once the plans / jigs were made, for one person. Then Powder coat or another paint process would run between $80 and $150.

So there's really not much room for profit at the $500 mark. Which is why if you make a quality trailer at that price.... I would snatch one up.

I'd buy it, but I would want it to have large enough wheels that I wouldn't have to worry about going 75 on the highway... or w/e you need to go that fast.

i want one too
if u start making them let me know
Sounds like I'm already stirring up some interest.

I just sold my beta version which lasted me about 5 years and about 3 trips around the country, literally.

I'm going to use the money spent to start building the next one.

If someone wants to buy it, I'll sell it, but if I don't have any buyers I'll keep it and use it as my own

I would be interested as well.

It almost looks a Harbor Freight trailer with a condor wheel chock.

that aluminum extrusion stuff isnt cheap

i realize youre usin the HF as a base for your design in the beta, is yours built from a HF kit or fabbed up by you?
Aluminum extrusion is very expensive. I'm actually working on some relationships I have with some suppliers to minimize the cost itself.

As far as the base trailer is concerned, I'll be working with some manufacturers of other utility trailers.
