its all about what you like. however, i have a friend that is a dood, of course...and he drives a toyota solara...and it tricked out and such...but, no one ever lets him forget that it is still in fact, a solara.

if you can get your hands on a john cooper works edition, that would be suweet. more power, better handling and suspsension...
but then it gets expensive.
Fuck that, paying dealer premium for $200 worth of upgrades.

It's a Turbo, for $2k worth of upgrades and tuning, you'll be over 300 WHP.

Couple that with some coilovers and for 1/2 the difference between the S and the JCW you'll smoke any Cooper on the road.

my friend has a GP and its a blast to drive. he used to have an S that was fully modded. i promise no one on this board could keep up with him on a twisty road.

i'm not sure how the mini got the "chick car" status? maybe a yellow convertible, but not the coupe S.

I guess most people can't see past the size and "cuteness" of it.

It's a very capable car, IMO. I'd love to take one to the track.

yeah. totally forgot the turbo. but aesthetically, if anyone did have any questions as to whether the mini looks like a 'chick car' or not, i think the jcw dispells that altogether.

also, maciek, what are your other choices? fiat's 500? that looks like a chick car, a la vw bug. cooper FTW

My other choices (in no particular order), are kind of all over the place, mostly in the 17-23k range:

-Acura RL
-Lexus IS350
-Audi A3 (just started looking at it)
-Jeep Wrangler (07 +)
-GMC Envoy Denali
-Subaru Outback XT
-Nissan Xterra
-Mini Cooper

To name a few...

To be happy, I would need 3 cars - but that is not attainable at this moment.

I 've driven the "S" and liked it . I disagree with some of these guys about it being a chick car . It has a long pedigree in the car world from winning rallys to hauling the family. In the price range , its hard to beat , but maybe consider a WRX as an option.
Good luck either way.

A chicks car? Really? Not a chance. The car rocks. Has been a racing car since it's inception. The reason for the roof colors that r different then the car or the British flag is because they would out manuver and get lost in packs of cars and would bunch up. So they identified the different drivers by different colored roofs because it was usually the only thing that was seen when in a pack of other racers

I completely disagree with this statement. I would steal my wife's Cooper S (stock tires too) anytime it would snow because my truck, with rear wheel drive and summer tires, wouldn't move (she worked from home). Set the traction control and I would drive it any day at any time over the winter. I would be getting thumbs up plowing through the fast lane with 4+ inches of snow on the road keeping up with the 4X4 guys.
It's fun a fuck to spin around corners too.
I agree with this disagreement :laughing

With winter tires, I wouldn't worry about snow - not one bit.

I'm just wondering if I can squeeze a 90lb black lab in there somehow?

Based on this pic, he should be alright:

I've seen 2 adults riding in the back so I'm sure your 90lb pup will be fine. ;)
