I purchased a used 2007 GSXR 750 that will serve dual purpose between street and track riding. Through my research and prep for the track, I have come across a few threads regarding "fork extenders" for the 2006-2007 year bikes.

First, I do not plan on putting a 190 tire on the rear - I will run Michelin 120-70/180's. According to Suzuki, the rear spring is a heavier spring and should accomodate my weight. However, I have not had the sag or "bouncy bounce test" set. The discussions I have read say both yes you need them and no you do not.

For those of you who have this model and year bike, are these a necessity and something I should look at purchasing and installing prior to my first track day? Or, are these based on rider set-up and comfort after track time trial?

its rider set-up, some folks like to raise the whole bike up for clearance, the rear can be easy to raise but with out the extenders you cant raise the front much, i dont have this year gsxr but thats common practice
 
its a setup thing, I have them on my 07 600 which is the same frame as your bike.

what it does is help to increase the amount of trail in the front end, using just the extenders alone will increase the effective rake as is will rais the front end of the bike up, this will leave the bike slower to turn in(it also happens to be how my bike is set up currently.) to negate the added rake the rear end is raised up, in the process swing arm angle is also increased and this does something to rear end traction but im not clear on what it actually does.
 
i have that bike, i dont have the extender though. i do have f/r aftermarket
suspension components. i like the bike like it is (meaning the way i have it set)
it turns in aggressive and feels good mid-corner, same on exits. if ya want to
take a closer look dean come and check it out. i'd say, make sure you have the
proper spring rates, get the sag set-up and go from there. gl

almost forgot, different tire profiles (dots vs. slicks) regarding front tire, require
me to raise or lower the triple clam 5mm. hope this helps, i'm no expert, but it
goes pretty good for me like this.
 
Yes the GSXR 600/750's will work with the stock forks pulled down flush in the triple.

However, they are a lot better with the fork cap extenders.....gives you more trail which equals more stability under braking and makes it a lot harder to tuck the front in the middle of the turn and gives you more feel when you are finding the limit.

When you start going fast....you have to have these at some point or you will enjoy crashing when you start to loose the front and can't save it.
 
And to edgumacate those with GSXR's a little further....here's the proper numbers for most track/club guys on the ride height in the back.

324-328mm measuring the rear shock from eye to eye (top bolt to bottom bolt in the same place).

When doing this...the bike should have stands on the footpegs so the rear wheel is unloaded and swingarm fully extended...not as accurate with a stand holding the rear of the bike up on spools because the suspension is compressed.
 
hey kev, can u recommend a brand/set of these fork extenders? u sure
are sellin me on these, at least i would like to investigate them.

to the op, dean, where/who/why got you lookin into these. now i'm curious.
anything to go fast
