Max is set at 65 right now. But, with an open track not every rider will be on at the same time. You can come and go as you please.
I really do appreciate the feedback and insight. I'll talk to our staff this weekend and let you know what we come up with. It sounds like a three group format is in our future.

I'm truly thankful for your help
Either way man, I do want to say THANK YOU! for getting involved locally and supporting our sport via Trackdays. I'm sure many of us will make a way to return the favor and attend your TD's. if you look at a 2 day (or 3 but I prefer 2) please let us know on here or FB.

Thanks again!
I'll give MWTD a try too once the group format is figured out. I don't think I'd wanna do BHF with 65 bikes with a large pace variation on the track at the same time though.....it will be like a bowling alley with 7 lanes.:laughing:

I would still be down to attend the format as is now (Open lapping). In fact I was planning on it. After that I would make my decision on whether or not it works, which it should if done right! I only added in my .02 if they are considering to change.

Trust me guys even if he had 60 people signed up and its open lapping not everyone is going to go out at once. Even once the track goes green at 9 am. People bs in the morning and take a while to get ready and figure they have the whole day to ride so why rush. Other wait for the track to warm up and temps to warm up (even in the summer). I wouldn't worry about it too much. If things get hairy I would swap to a 2 group format for 30min a group. But I would not be turned away by an open lapping day. I would be more likely to go if it was open lapping.

Our first weekend is in the books. Here's some highlights; the ambulances didn't move an inch, the crash truck rolled one time for a dry fuel tank, because it was snowing our coaches were able put on a mini-clinic, every rider in attendance made major improvements and we all had a lot of fun.

However.... it did snow and sleet, turnout was low and I think the owls and coyotes had a turf war Saturday night. Not sure who won.

After talking with riders across the region, our coaches and some personal friends, I've decided to change our format to three groups for our remaining events.

Red Group is for street experienced riders and, riders with some of track experience who are looking for a moderate pace. Passing limited to straights.
White Group is for track experienced riders who are familiar with the flags, pit in/out procedures and 10+ previous track days. Passing on straights and on outside in turns.
Blue Group is for track day veterans and licensed racers. The pace will be fast with passing allowed in every section of the track.

Pricing:
Early Registration $165/day - $285/weekend
Standard Registrations $185/day - $335/weekend

I'm very grateful for all the input and experience that was shared.

What if you've never done a track day before? Would that person still fall into the red group?
Red: Slow as shit, looking to gain some experience, no competitive drive at this point.

White: Average rider but thinks he's fast, expect to do some passing and get passed, too scared to hit the fast group, or should be blue group but wants to impress people that don't know about racing.

Blue: Actual racers with real number plates looking for more track time, or veteran track day riderz too scared to measure up in real racing, or wonder boy street geek ready to stack it up on the second lap.

Pick a group.

congrats on the weekend...

my only suggestion would be to introduce "open lapping" for the last hour or 2 of the day. a lot of riders start packing up for the day so track density wouldn't be that bad. for those newer riders and ones getting familiar with the track pace all day can get some time to push their bikes towards the end of the day and do some final adjustments.

do you guys have an age limit, this will be my daughters 3rd year racing with ccs, some orgs are 18 year old limit and others honor a ccs license
Sorry, I just noticed your question.

I'll have to double check with our insurance company. With the Open Format they required a minimum 18 years old.
